When I looked at WWE's financial report this morning, the PPV revenue segment and the entire Consumer Products division jumped out at me as contributors to WWE's weak financial position in terms of less revenue being generated by the company. I'll start with PPV business.

WWE did not meet its goal of 1.0 million buys for WrestleMania 25. WWE reported 960,000 buys for the signature PPV of the year compared to 1.06 million buys for WM24 in March 2008. However, WM25 generated more revenue than WM24.

WWE reported that WM25 (including PPV buys, ticket sales for the event, and "other revenue") generated $32.2 million of revenue and $15.0 million in profit compared to $31.3 million in revenue and $7.1 million in profit for WM24.

Although WrestleMania 25 boosted the second quarter 2009 revenue, the combined first quarter and second quarter 2009 PPV revenue total was down 20.1 percent compared to 2008.

PPV revenue from January - June 2009 was $49.2 million compared to $59.1 million in 2008. WWE generated $55.6 million in the same period in 2007.

In the actual second quarter, WWE reported fewer PPV buys across the board, except for the Extreme Rules PPV.

-- Judgment Day 2009 - 228,000 buys compared to 252,000 in 2008 and 242,000 in 2007
-- Extreme Rules 2009 - 213,000 buys compared to 194,000 in 2008 and 186,000 in 2007
-- The Bash 2009 - 178,000 buys compared to 196,000 in 2008 and 229,000 in 2007
