WWE, as a publicly traded company, could be in trouble with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) for issuing a false press release on Tuesday to announce the "sale" of the Raw brand to Donald Trump.

However, the SEC issued a "no comment" to TVSquad.com on whether they will investigate the incident, which could have contributed to shares of WWE stock dropping 7 percent on Tuesday after the "announcement."

USA Network issued a press release on Thursday apologizing for the press release that was meant to promote ongoing TV storylines. It could have been a pre-emptive measure to fend off the SEC.

"Federal investigators prefer to use words like 'false reporting.' The Securities and Exchange Commission generally frowns on deliberately false media reports that affect the stock market," said TVSquad.com. "In fact, they tend to watch any major media incident that causes a stir in the markets."

Caldwell's Analysis: This could be something or nothing, but the key is that there was heavy trading of WWE stock on Tuesday. Just looking at the chart of "Trade Volume," there was a jump in activity on Tuesday when WWE issued the press release, which could draw SEC's attention that a false press release influenced trading activity and could lead to an investigation.
