WWE News: What in the world is IED? For starters, it's reportedly linked to steroid use Jan 27, 2009 - 12:47:40 AM
Perhaps WWE should have gone with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) to explain Randy Orton's recent string of rash behavior that included punt-kicking Vince McMahon in the head on last week's episode of WWE TV.
Instead, WWE scripted an explanation on last night's Raw that Randy Orton's character suffers from IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder). The mental impairment is defined as: "a behavioral disorder characterized by extreme expressions of anger, often to the point of uncontrollable rage."
Here's where it may have been more fruitful to pursue the IBS route. According to medical website huliq, recent reports have indicated "IED may be exacerbated by steroid use" based on the chemical changes in the brain that affect the mental state of a person.
Caldwell's Analysis: Maybe not the best disease to pick out of a list of potential ailments to explain Randy Orton's character's recent behavior and viper-like mood-swings. Certainly, it's a TV storyline, but linking a top star to an ailment heightened by steroid use is pretty curious if WWE did the research in advance.
