WWE News: UFC owner says Vince McMahon might buy UFC 91 to see Brock Lesnar Nov 11, 2008 - 11:39:45 AM
Appearing on ESPN's "First Take" show this morning, UFC president Dana White made a bold prediction that UFC 91 this Saturday night in Las Vegas could do over 1.2 million buys. The fight, featuring Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture, is expected to be one of the most lucrative events in MMA history.
"We think it's going to be the biggest pay-per-view draw in UFC history," White said. "We think we're going to do 1.2 million buys on this fight."
White credits the WWE fanbase for helping the fight be a potential record-setting event. Even Vince McMahon might check in to see how Lesnar fares, he said.
"It's a big fight, (with) the WWE cross-over for this fight, a lot of WWE fans are going to tune in to see if their former wrestling champion can win in a real fight," White said. "Vince McMahon might even buy this fight."
Caldwell's Analysis: If McMahon, any other WWE executive, or Triple H were to watch the fight, the hope is that they'll pay attention to some of the production values, the presentation of the fights, the pre-and-post-match "profile segments," and other elements of UFC's presentation to incorporate that into the WWE product that we see on TV.
WWE has top-notch, state-of-the-art production value, but they could use a little tweak in their thought-process to make the WWE wrestlers meaningful to the audience and matches relevant to the potential PPV-buying customer.
