WWE News: Two WWE wrestlers from the Raw brand released on Friday Nov 8, 2008 - 1:23:27 AM
It's that time of the year. WWE reports lower-than-expected quarterly earnings, they indicate budget costs in the $20-25 million range are coming, and wrestlers start getting cut from their independent contracts.
Paul London and Chuck Palumbo were given their releases on Friday, according to WWE's website. London was officially part of the Raw brand, but he had not been on WWE TV for a few months after his former tag partner, The Brian Kendrick, was drafted to Smackdown during the Draft in June.
Chuck Palumbo was drafted from Smackdown to Raw in June, but he did appear on Raw. WWE then released him after he reached mild success as a heel on the Smackdown brand feuding against Jamie Noble and Michelle McCool.
Caldwell's Analysis: There was probably the old line about creative having nothing for either one of these men. London had been in the doghouse with WWE management off and on for the past year, and with budget cuts coming, WWE was probably looking for an excuse to cut him.
Having worked at a real estate job where management always used budget cuts as an excuse to get rid of people they didn't like or didn't perceive to be performing well, it's pretty obvious why London was cut. Palumbo just hasn't been able to become a legitimate big-man star WWE envisioned for him on the Smackdown brand.
DISCUSSION POINT: Where do you see Paul London and Chuck Palumbo ending up next? London would seemingly give ROH a necessary boost, but potentially lost in the shuffle in TNA. Where do they go next? Comment below!
