WWE News: Beth Phoenix says new divas are rushed onto WWE TV, comments on Internet criticism (w/VIDEO) Nov 6, 2008 - 12:37:42 PM
Beth Phoenix has worked hard to become a top female wrestling star, which is why she's concerned about newer divas jumping on the WWE scene without much experience.
"There's more and more girls out there that want to be part of the business," Beth told ign.com in a recent interview at the Florida developmental school. "As far as the experience level of some of the WWE divas, there are girls who get rushed along in the process. They're beautiful and we want to get them on TV as soon as possible."
She continued: "Sometimes that doesn't leave for a lot of time for wrestling training. This isn't a business that you can pick up in a few weeks. This takes years of commitment, dedication, passion, and hard work."
With that is WWE's road schedule that doesn't provide for enough in-ring time for the divas to develop. "With our current grueling schedule, sometimes the way our girls come into WWE, it's with less experience than the training the guys get."
Beth also commented on creating her persona to connect with the audience in way they can relate to. She says the Glamazon is her and she can easily portray that character to the audience.
Related to her character in the latest Smackdown vs. Raw video game, Beth says THQ tried to meticulously capture her mannerisms, yet there were gamers online who criticized how her character looks on the game.
"If you go read the comments on boards, there's a lot of criticism on my character. 'Oh, this isn't quite right. That's not updated.' And to me, that's so cool because it shows that people really care about this game. ... It's really been eye-opening - I get to interact a lot with WWE fans - and gaming fans are just as dedicated and devoted to the game."
Beth said being part of the new game is surreal after growing up a wrestling fan and playing wrestling games back in the day.
Caldwell's Analysis: Beth came across very articulate and well-spoken in the interview, so that was quite refreshing when we're accustomed to her not doing much talking on camera when paired up with Santino. She portrays a silent assassin heel on TV, but it's obvious based on the interview she can do some talking as her character evolves. Beth presented herself as a strong leader in the locker room and a resource for newer divas, which is definitely a bonus.
