Ratings News: Raw viewership drops again, can John Cena be the savior in a few weeks? (w/Keller's Analysis) Oct 28, 2008 - 4:21:21 PM
Monday's (10/28) edition of Raw drew a 2.9 rating, the same as last week. It's the first time Raw has drawn ratings below 3.0 two weeks in a row since Oct. 20 and 27, 1997. The show drew an average of 4.20 million viewers, a drop of 70,000 from last week's average and a drop of 340,000 from two weeks ago.
The show ranked no. 4 in the key demo of 18-49 year old adults and no. 3 among men 18-49.
Keller's Analysis: The World Series, with the compelling weather angle, could have drawn some viewers away from the show. Coming the day after a PPV, featuring a World Title celebration by a top babyface, and headlined with a star-studded main event, the rating is a disappointment. The three-hour special Raw comes at a good time, but whether it really makes a difference going forward is doubtful. If John Cena's return doesn't pop ratings, WWE will have to take a hard look at a real format overhaul for the show to try to get back into the mid-3s that not long ago were seen as below acceptable but now would be a huge achievement.
