8/18 WWE Raw HOLT report: What the live crowd saw that the TV viewers didn't Aug 19, 2008 - 12:04:51 AM
WWE Raw HOLT report
August 18, 2008
Chicago, Ill. at Allstate Arena
Report by Sean Liska, PWTorch.com reader
I was at the show. My first observation is about the live crowd. I was at SummerSlam last night and have been to WWE events around the country, and there is just nothing like a WWE show at the Allstate Arena. The crowd always elevates things to a higher level, and the atmosphere tonight smoked last night in Indy. The only comparison I can come up with for that building is the old ECW Arena in its glory days. It was a legit sellout.
DARK MATCH
(1) Morishima beat Charlie Haas in a dark match. He got the old Orient Express music. Crowd didn't know him, but responded well to his highspots. He won with a dropkick off the top ropes.
(2) William Regal also won a dark match against someone whose name I didn't catch.
RAW NOTES
John Cena is getting pretty close to the Rock/Austin type of pop where your ears literally hurt.
Santino cut a hilarious promo during a commercial that I reccomend everyone watch on WWE.com.
The crowd loved Punk tonight. He got chants before the show and during commercials. After Raw went off the air, he hit the GTS on Cade. JBL then came out and it was announced that he and Punk were having a world title match. They had an entertaining bout which Punk won with the GTS. Afterwards, Punk posed in the ring and then slapped hands around ringside to a big response. He got on the mic and talked about playing a gangster at WM22 and dreaming about one day being in the same ring with the world title. He soaked up more applause and finally left. The crowd treated him like a big star during the whole thing. Definitely cool to experience live after seeing him in so many gyms around the area and producing so many memorable moments at the Frontier Fieldhouse with ROH.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
