WWE Smackdown taping report
July 15, 2008
Charlotte, N.C.
Report by Justin Parker, PWTorch.com contributor
DARK MATCH
(1) Ron Killings defeated Domino. Killings was only called "The Truth" and got a good reception being from Charlotte. Okay match, I have a feeling that Domino might soon be getting wished luck in his future endeavors.
SMACKDOWN
The show started with footage of the wedding earlier in the day and the wedding parties then came out for the wedding reception complete with tables and cake.
(1) Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder defeated Fit Finlay & Hornswoggle with Edge as referee- Edge played biased ref and cost the faces the match.
Edge and Vickie are doing the first dance when Big Show comes out. Vickie then orders a match where she says he'll be sorry. His opponents are Khali, Kozlov, Benjamin and MVP against Show
(2) The Big Show wrestled The Great Khali & Kozlov & Benjamin & MVP to a no contest. Show gets control after the finish, but the heels take over and each perform their finish on Show. Khali ends the segment with the Khali bomb on Show, which looked pretty impressive.
Divas all came out for the bouquet toss, and Cherry caught the bouquet. Michelle McCool then attacked Natalia. Vickie then made a match with Cherry vs. Natalia which Natalia quickly won. Vickie then pinned Natalia herself and celebrated like she just won the world title.
(3) Brian Kendrick defeated Jimmy Wang Yang with Rycklon as Kendrick's bodyguard- Decent match that Kendrick won with the Sliced Bread #2. Kendrick's new look is pretty cool and he plays the cocky heel pretty well.
(4) Umaga defeated Mr. Kennedy with the Samoan Spike. Pretty long and boring match that lost the crowd. There was an extended, (and by extended I mean eight minutes out of a ten minute match) nerve hold during the match that a lot of fans didn't like. Kennedy came back only to go down at the hands of the Samoan Spike
(5) Morrison & Miz defeated Jesse & Festus. Nothing of note here, just a win by the champs.
(6) Matt Hardy wrestled Jeff Hardy to a no contest. The Hardys threw cake on the heels on the way down. Vickie ordered them to fight each other. Decent match while it lasted until La Familia beat down both brothers.
Show ended with Edge and Vickie until Triple H comes out with wedding gifts.. Edge is shown hidden camera footage putting the moves on Victoria Crawford (the wedding planner woman). And Vickie blows up on him. Great facials in this and a really memorable segment. Post-Show
POST-SMACKDOWN TAPING
Ric Flair came out and gave his thank you to Charlotte. Puts over the city big and then calls out some of his family members and thanks everyone.
(1) Triple H defeated Edge with the Pedigree after a spear by Vickie. Nothing match until the finish which was pretty good considering what happened earlier.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Good showing overall and I would recommend checking out Friday's show just for the show closing angle itself which is great. If you want my extended thoughts, please check out the Parker's Penny Thoughts blog from earlier today with a more detailed account of some of the happenings from the show.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
