WWE News: Mike Adamle replaces Joey Styles as lead play-by-play voice of ECW (w/Keller Reax) Apr 15, 2008 - 3:52:57 PM
WWE has replaced Joey Styles as lead play-by-play voice of ECW with Mike Adamle. Styles has been the "voice of ECW" throughout most of its two eras. Adamle was recently hired to interview wrestlers on Raw and be groomed for a potential main announcer slot down the line.
Keller's Analysis: Styles had been doing a fine job commenting on ECW recently. He also was a whipping boy for Vince McMahon on headsets. Although there isn't any word yet that there was a conflict behind the scenes, it might have gotten to the point where Styles finally stood up for himself and this is his punishment. It's also possible that WWE simply wants to give Adamle a shot to see if he's got A-announcer potential and the only way to do that is on-the-job training. Jim Ross signed a contract extension recently, apparently multi-year. Michael Cole, by all indications, is on solid ground with WWE, although since he's never been a passionate fan of the industry, it would not be shocking to see him cash out and find a radio gig in Texas where he lives and be closer to his family and travel less. If WWE feels Styles isn't A-show quality, giving Adamle some real world experience to see how good he can become is a smart move from their perspective.
