WWE News: Flair makes post-retirement appearance in major arena wearing wrestling robe on network TV Apr 6, 2008 - 4:00:57 PM
PWTorch.com reader Brian Milici of Torch VIP Member since 2002 sent the following notes on Ric Flair at an NBA game today...
Ric Flair was in New Orleans for the Hornets game today. The Nature Boy stood mid-court in his trademark flowing blue robes that he would so often wear to the ring, and he introduced the starting lineup for the Hornets in their game against the Golden State Warriors which was televised nationally on ABC.
Now, the last time Flair was with the Hornets (formerly of Charlotte), it was their first home game since relocating from North Carolina to New Orleans back on October 30, 2002. After star point guard Baron Davis would make a shot, Flair's trademark "Whoo!" would play over the loudspeakers. Apparently Davis and Flair had done some commercials together in Charlotte and he adopted the Nature Boy's "Whoo!" as his own.
However, Davis was traded from New Orleans to Golden State after an acrimonious relationship in his final days with the Hornets became too much for coach Byron Scott to stand. Scott then drafted Chris Paul from Wake Forest a year later. Paul grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Davis gave Paul some advice when coming out for the NBA Draft when he did.
When Paul arrived with the Hornets he kept Flair's "Whoo!" that Davis used after scoring. The fans at New Orleans Arena are heard very loudly "Whooing" after Flair's voice is played over the loudspeaker whenever Paul scores.
When introducing the Hornets, Ric Flair saved the best for last. He called him Chris "My God" Paul. The ABC announcers joked that you never know what you'll see when you come to New Orleans, even wrestling legend Ric Flair introducing the club.
