TORCH TRIVIA 2/18: Answer to who Tommy Dreamer defeated in ECW when he was winning matches 10 years ago Feb 19, 2009 - 11:17:29 AM
Original question: Yes, there was a recorded, historical event in ECW when Tommy Dreamer was on the winning end of a match. On the February 18, 1999 ECW house show in Johnstown, Pa., Dreamer was in the main event and he helped defeat the Dudley Boys (a/k/a Team 3D in TNA). Who was his tag partner in the match?
The answer is (b) Shane Douglas. Main event was Dreamer & Douglas (accompanied by Francine) defeating the Dudleys (accompanied by everyone in the Dudley family). This was around the time of Douglas turning babyface and teasing his retirement, which aired on the February 20, 1999 edition of ECW TV, but was taped on Feb. 12. Douglas said he was "passing the torch" to Tommy Dreamer as the new Franchise in ECW.
Torch Trivia expert Dusty Robinson correctly points out this led to a feud against the Impact Players, which included Justin Credible and Lance Storm. Dusty writes: Douglas was still around ECW at this time and had just turned face to join Tommy Dreamer. Their most memorable match was a win against the Impact Players (Lance Storm & Justin Credible) at the Living Dangerously PPV in March. A short time later, Douglas would go to WCW and reunite with former ECW wrestlers Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Perry Saturn.
