TORCH TRIVIA 2/16: Answer to who addressed Hulk Hogan jumping to WCW on a Radio WWE show 15 years ago Feb 17, 2009 - 11:50:13 AM
Original question: When WWE was figuring out how to interact directly with fans with new technology, the following quote was said on the February 19, 1994 edition of "Radio WWF" about the possibility of Hulk Hogan jumping ship to WCW: "I think that it would be a mistake for the Hulkster to go to the minor leagues after all these years. ... I hope he shows up at WrestleMania X, that's what I hope." Who said this quote?
(a) Jim Ross
(b) Gorilla Monsoon
(c) Vince McMahon
(d) Jack Tunney
The answer is (c) Vince McMahon. McMahon surprisingly acknowledged the competition in the early days of WWE-to-fan interaction before McMahon changed the company's policy.
McMahon's exact quote (re-printed from the WWE Newswire of Torch Newsletter #268): "I think that it would be a mistake for the Hulkster to go to the minor leagues after all these years, but then again, perhaps that's where he feels he can compete best. But then again, I don't really think he's going to do it. I just can't imagine why he would want to do that... I hope he doesn't. I hope he shows up at WrestleMania X, that's what I hope." Of course, Hogan didn't appear at WrestleMania X.
-- Checking on the responses, our winners for Feb. 16 Torch Trivia question were: Sam Robinson. Props to Dusty Robinson, who successfully navigated about 50 consecutive Torch Trivia questions until finally being stumped. Only one person picked Vince, as everyone else went the Monsoon or Ross route. McMahon was about five months away from the steroid trial, so he was still around commenting on WWF matters.
