There is a thing that I hate that is a punch of crap. I---- hate Rap. Rap is crap. Ian Hunter here, walking on out in a cowboy hat and a shirt that was clearly made with an iron-on logo. Following behind me are a bunch of second rate stars that you’ve quickly forgotten because really all you remember is me and my career. Continuing the celebration of the DVD release, this week we continue with Part 2 of our trivia on Curt Hennig. But first, we need to answer last week’s questions.
1: B. Gange chatted the matter over with Bockwinkle, deciding who would be more deserving of a title run. Bockwinkle picked Hennig. Rumors were he didn’t think Hall “had it.”
2: A. Terry Taylor, believe it or not, was also up for the role of Mr. Perfect for a period of time. No insult to Taylor, but good thing he didn’t get it. Could you picture Hennig as The Red Rooster?
3: D. Kerry was actually hitting up management for another title run. Not much is known about his reasoning other than he wanted a second shot, but Hennig’s word put Hart in the title spot.
4: The Ultimate Warrior. Originally it was from the fallout of SummerSlam and the week after where Flair and Razor cost both men the championship separately. But Warrior was given the boot from a failed drug test, and Hennig became Machos’ partnet.
5: D. Hunter “injured” Hennig, which in turn led to a series of events where he would end up helping him in a double-cross to win the I.C. Title.
Lot of people chimed in over this one, but we only have two winners. Keysha Johnson and Owen Rolley. You’ve earned the right to strut out to the Mr. Perfect theme, because your score was absolutely, Perfect. Let’s see if you two can go two for two with everyone else as we enter the second and final week of Curt Hennig trivia. Answer the questions and email your answers to TorchTrivia@gmail.com. We'll post the names of those who got ALL FIVE correct. Good luck to you all!
1. First, a write-in question. After nearly a decade with the WWF, Hennig made his way to the more popular WCW for more money and an easier schedule. Going by his real name due to copyrights, he made his debut at the 1997 Bash At The Beach as the mystery partner of Diamond Dallas Page. Even though he was happy to be back in the ring, you could see it on his face that he wasn’t too happy about the promotion to his arrival, or the reception he got when he walked out. He quickly was recruited to join the Four Horsemen to replace Arn Anderson, only to turn on them at the Fall Brawl and join the nWo. He made the claim prior that he was jumped backstage, only to handcuff them all to the cage and slam Ric Flair’s head in the door. Aside from making the proclamation that he killed the Four Horsemen, Hennig made one more statement that night to add insult to injury. What was it?
2. Shortly after joining the nWo, Hennig defeated Steve McMichael for the United States Championship, and assumed his role as a champion. Totally playing off his old I.C. title run in the early 90’s he took on any and all contenders to put on some of the best matches in the company. Taking on people like Jeff Jarrett, Chris Benoit and Lex Luger in matches that would have been called classics… if not for the nWo interference. After three months management wasn’t pleased with the crowd reactions, and instead placed the title on at Starrcade ‘97. Hennig was left stranded as a mid-carder for most of 1998 following the split of the nWo, joining the Wolfpac side with his old friend Rick Rude. Eventually he was set to take on Goldberg for the title, but couldn’t due to a knee injury. So instead he asked another wrestler to take his place. But after that wrestler lost the match, both Hennig and Rude turned on him and joined the Hollywood faction. Who did they turn on?
A. Brian Adams
B. Konnan
C. Rey Mysterio Jr.
D. Scott Norton
E. Buff Bagwell
3. Another write-in question for you. After the whole split faction thing ended in the nWo, a lot of “fat” was trimmed. Within a month Hennig was publicly thrown out of the faction. At the same time he started teaming up with Barry Windham and eventually won the WCW Tag Team titles in Feburary 1999, which ended after a one month reign (who’s didn’t) when they lost the belts to Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit. After some lackluster mid-card wrestling, Hennig and Windham became co-leaders of the West Texas Rednecks, a faction based primarily on the idea of being pure southerners who don’t like anything that isn’t from Texas. And of course, they made their way into hating rap right around the time Master P formed his No Limit Soldiers faction. Nothing real memorable came out of this faction except the song “Rap Is Crap”, sung by Hennig himself. Sadly, the song met its demise when Master P took off and it was replaced with a second theme called “Good Ol’ Boys”. Surprisingly the WWF never filed suit against them because the song was a direct ripoff of someone’s old theme from the company from the mid-90’s. Who’s?
4. With his contract expiring in mid-2000, and the WWF going in a different direction, Hennig found himself without a company to wrestle for. A couple months later he got a phone call from Jimmy Hart asking him to come down to Florida to wrestle for his new promotion, the XWF. Hennig was billed as a franchise star and was on the road to winning the promotion’s Heavyweight Championship from Mabel, until a certain wrestler was announced for coming on board and plans were scrapped. Leaving Hennig to be a main event jobber until his departure from the promotion in late 2001. What name was announced?
A. Roddy Piper
B. Hulk Hogan
C. Randy Savage
D. Kevin Nash
E. Ric Flair
5. In late 2001 McMahon met with Hennig in a brief meeting to discuss coming back as Mr. Perfect at the Royal Rumble. Hennig instantly agreed with the thought that this would be a second chance to pick his career back up from where he left off in the company. He came back to a huge pop, going toe-to-toe with Steve Austin and Triple H as if he were still at the top of his game. Even made it as one of the final four wrestlers in the match and put Kurt Angle in a Perfect-Plex. He earned a full-time contract from his performance, but that’s about where his big run ended. Playing second fiddle to people like Tazz and Shawn Stasiak, and even forming a tag team with the Big Boss Man before he was released from the company due to his fight with Brock Lesnar on an airplane. He made his way to TNA in 2002, but before he could he had to wait for his non-compete term to end. How many months did Hennig have to wait to join TNA?
