Break the walls dooooooooooownnnnnn! Ian Hunter here, walking on out to a bunch of code from The Matrix and a hairstyle that would make me wanna hit myself over and over again until death took me unto its sweet embrace. Who in the hell told Jericho that was a good look for him? Grow it back! Please!!! And what's the deal with giving him the I.C. Belt in a "match" he "won." We all know better, and I think it's a spit in the face to the fans who know damn well how he got the title. So this week we're going to be talking about disgraces to the legacy (or what's left of the legacy) of the Intercontinental Championship. But first, we need to answer last week's questions.
1: The song was called The Goonies 'R' Good Enough. I really wish the video was shorter because the sudden appearance of Andre (who was wearing wrestling boots too) makes no sense.
2: The song was "Oh Hell Yeah" by the H-Blockx. Oddly enough, they're still releasing albums.
3: A. Demolition was advertised to be on the album, but was mysteriously pulled. Sad too, because I wanted to hear the Ax and the Smasher coming.
4: A. Rick Rude was the last singer. In fact, they had fans vote on what one was the best, and it came down to Rude and Sting. Take a wild guess who won.
5: B. Only 6 tapes were released during this time period. If you have a copy of one, consider yourself lucky. Some of those versions you can't even find on YouTube.
No winners this week, so no one gets their own theme music. Yeah, I know you can't hear it, but it's the thought that counts. It's a whole new week with new questions. Answer the questions and email your answers to TorchTrivia@gmail.com. We'll post the names of those who got ALL FIVE correct. Good luck to you all!
1. Shane Douglas was a loudmouth no matter what company he went to, and had a habit for becoming not just hated, but ignored by the fans because of his behavior. One of the strongest points to this was when he was in the WWF as the gimmick known as Dean Douglas. Douglas would grade wrestlers on their performance in the ring and then would usually come up on the losing end of things. Until one night in October 1995 when he won the I.C. Title by default at In Your House. Sadly, his reign would be short as he would lose the belt to Razor Ramon quickly after getting it. Who did Douglas win the belt from?
A. Jeff Jarrett
B. Diesel
C. Shawn Michaels
D. Max Moon
E. Goldust
2. Next one is a write-in. Speaking of short runs, the I.C. Title has had it run of people with short title spans. The Mountie who lost it to Roddy Piper only a couple days down the road, Edge and Jeff Jarrett both had it for a day in 1999 before D-Lo Brown picked it up, and even Jericho held onto it for 10 minutes before it went to RVD in a cage match. But there's one person who officially holds the title for :01 seconds. Our question to you... who is it?
3. Shawn Michaels was holding onto the gold in early 1994 before a drug test came up saying that he tested positive for drugs. What kind of drugs is still unknown, but as usual in wrestling they don't focus on that kind of stuff. Shawn kept the belt after being suspended, but the WWF made a second one and put it on Razor Ramon after a battle royal on Monday Night Raw. This of course led to the WrestleMania X match, but we already covered that event so let move on. Did you know that Razor wasn't their first choice for the belt? Who was the first pick to run with the belt?
A. Rick Martel
B. Bam Bam Bigelow
C. Doink The Clown
D. Diesel
E. Jeff Jarrett
4. Of all the people you'd think deserved a long I.C. Title reign, Ricky Steamboat would probably be one of the top choices on the list, right? Sadly, that wasn't the way history went down as Ricky dumped the championship to (of all people) The Honky Tonk Man just three months later after winning it from Savage at WrestleMaina III. But would it surprise you to know that Ricky was being billed to be a fighting long-term champion? It's true. In fact he was due to carry the belt for the next year! But behind the scenes Ricky did something that didn't sit well with McMahon and it forced the title to go to someone else for a long stay. What did Ricky do?
A. He started slacking off.
B. He asked for time off.
C. He wrestled for another promotion for one night.
D. He was in talks to come back to the NWA.
E. He had a fight back stage with Savage.
5. Probably one of the strangest insults to ever happen to the title was when it was unified with the WCW United States Championship. A belt onto itself that had a longer and prouder history than the I.C. Title, the title was one of the many that were squashed at the end of the Invasion angle in 2001 as the WWF rewrote history and ended the official chapters on many titles. The winner and history holder became Edge, but the change was actually due to happen with another person. Who was originally slated to hold the belt come Survivor Series?
A. Kurt Angle
B. Rhyno
C. Christian
D. Lance Storm
E. Test
