Note: So you don't have to click back and forth from article to article, we're putting the day's news in an easier-to-digest format for quick reading on your phones. We also will be introducing for the first time ever access to one of our popular Ask PWTorch features for the first time ever on this app (we'll aim for this daily) that otherwise can only be accessed as a VIP member. It's been one of our most popular new features the last year or two, but it's previously been VIP-exclusive as far as accessing on our app.
TODAY'S NEWS...
-The first set of betting odds for WWE's Summerslam PPV shows tentative oddsmaking for a PPV that could go several different directions. International oddsmaker 5Dimes only posted one heavy favorite - Bray Wyatt over Chris Jericho - and one close-to-heavy favorite - Roman Reigns over Randy Orton. Slight favorites are Jack Swagger over Rusev, The Miz over Dolph Ziggler, A.J. Lee over Paige, and Brock Lesnar over John Cena. There are also two toss-ups - Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins and Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon, allowing bettors to decide who who should be the favorite or underdog.
-TNA today sent out a press release touting that last Thursday's Impact on August 7 drew the "largest audience since mid-February" based on original airing viewership combined with DVR viewing. TNA claimed 1.6 million viewers watched last Thursday's Impact, which would be the addition of approximately 200,000 viewers to the original figure of 1.410 million viewers. James Caldwell tested the validity of this claim and analyzed why TNA might suddenly be bragging about ratings at www.PWTorch.com. Check out our main website, www.PWTorch.com, for the longer story.
-On www.PWTorch.com today, Sean Radican reviewed and endorsed the Paul Heyman DVD that just came out. Here is an excerpt of Radican's lengthy detailed review today:
EXCERPT: Ladies and Gentleman, my Name is Paul Heyman” is a wonderful look at the entire career of Paul Heyman. More importantly, it gives viewers an inside look at how throughout his career he was able to explain things to wrestlers to get them to see his vision and buy into it no matter how dire the situation was in reality. Heyman’s clashes working in the corporate wrestling world are well-documented and it’s clear that Stephanie McMahon was not a huge fan of Paul Heyman when he was working in WWE after ECW folded. Ross also chronicles Heyman’s battles behind the scenes while working in WCW and WWE. The most interesting parts of the documentary focus on Heyman’s ability to mentor young talent and get the most out of them whether it was working with Taz and Dreamer in ECW, Edge and Guerrero in WWE, a young C.M Punk in WWE, Punk was always able to work with talent and learn from them as well. This is one of the best documentaries WWE has produced to date and the extras with Heyman promos, more interviews, and behind the scenes footage makes it a must buy.
-TNA star Kurt Angle is scheduled to headline "Legends of Wrestling Night" at Prince George's Stadium in Maryland next Wednesday, August 20. Included will be Angle throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Bowie Baysox's minor league baseball game. Angle's appearance comes after TNA tours the area with a show in Hagerstown, Md. on Sunday, August 17.
-Stephanie McMahon replaced Triple H in the weekly WWE.com interview segment. Full details at www.PWTorch.com.
-Also today, Michael Moore presented his Collectibles Column looking at the top five autographs of a resurgent A.J. Styles. The number one card is the 2004 Pacific Trading Cards Main Event Autograph ($20-40). This was Styles’s first certified autograph, and is different from his TRISTAR autographs in that it features an on-card auto instead of a sticker signature. This is a short-printed card, and the most popular autograph in the Main Event Autographs subset. To read the full top five list, visit www.PWTorch.com on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone browser.
-Our latest poll asks which Summerslam match are you most looking forward to. Number one the list right now is John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at 46%. Vote in our poll right now on this very app or at www.PWTorch.com.
-The Wade Keller Hotline for VIP members will be posted later today with the "Ask the Editor" format including my responses to your questions you emailed this week. To go VIP, visit www.PWTorch.com/govip!
