Torch Today January 1, 2014
- The Rock says he's out for WrestleMania 30. Don't blame him. Movies, movies, and more movies ringing up registers. Risk tearing another ab muscle? Take a year off and check the landscape in 2015 in San Francisco.
- Let's spin the WrestleMania Part-Timer Wheel. Rock says he's out. Batista in. Jericho says he's out. Who's next to be in? ... How about Lesnar vs. Batista at Mania? Where would that leave Taker? Perhaps Lesnar vs. Batista at the Rumble? Has there been a more up-in-the-air Mania line-up in the last decade?
- Still processing Daniel Bryan and the Wyatts. Initial feeling is long, drawn-out story that may drag at times. Could also be very compelling. Does it get Bryan to the Promised Land of WWE Title supremacy? As a face? As a heel? Latter not what people are itching for and not what Babyface Journey dictated. WWE veering into Chris Sabin Territory - angry babyface becomes defiant, mad, loses touch with reality to "fight the machine." If anyone can pull it off, it's Bryan.
- Jim Ross on USA Today drawing WWE comparisons to Sugar Bowl. A/k/a season for Nick Saban to leverage big payday. Ross is back on TV on the sidelines Thursday.
- What happened in Japanese Pro Wrestling in 2013? Big things. New Japan popped, delivered Match of the Year contenders, and formed relationship with the NWA. Read all about 2013 at PuroresuSpirit.com.
- Look out for AAA in the U.S. in 2014. Set to launch on new El Rey channel later this year.
- Grumpy Old 30-year-old thought: What happened to the New Year's Eve TV programming? Couldn't find a decent countdown show to watch last night. Dick Clark is missed.
- Armando Estrada on the Livecast with Pat McNeill today. Ring in the New Year at 5:30 EST at PWTorchLivecast.com.
