We've tallied up the totals from the best and worst in pro wrestling during the month of October 2009 in ten monthly categories.
We'll track these throughout the year and keep a running tally to look back in December to see whether the stars at the beginning of the year are still the stars at the end of the year.
***image1***MVP of the Month
(1) Chris Jericho (34 percent)
(2) Randy Orton (16 percent)
(3) Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe) (15 percent)
(4) C.M. Punk (11 percent)
(5t) A.J. Styles (8 percent)
(5t) Christian (8 percent) Chris Jericho de-throned C.M. Punk from the MVP of the Month award. Punk had won four months in a row and Jericho finished second in September before finally returning to MVP status in October.
Best Wrestler of the Month
(1) Chris Jericho (20 percent)
(2t) Christian (15 percent)
(2t) John Morison (15 percent)
(4) Kurt Angle (10 percent)
(5) A.J. Styles (10 percent)
(6) Randy Orton (9 percent) Chris Jericho also finished second in this category in September, but took first place this month by de-throning John Morrison.
Best Tag Team of the Month
(1) Chris Jericho & Big Show (49 percent)
(2) Motor City Machineguns (11 percent)
(3) DX (Triple H & Shawn Michaels) (8 percent)
(4t) Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) (6 percent)
(4t) Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, Jr.) (6 percent) Chris Jericho and Big Show won for the third straight month, with their winning percentage increasing to 49 percent from 36 percent in September. Jericho has won four straight months after winning with Edge in July.
Female Wrestler of the Month
(1) Awesome Kong (18 percent)
(2) Beth Phoenix (13 percent)
(3) Tara (10 percent)
(4t) Alissa Flash (8 percent)
(4t) Mickie James (8 percent) Awesome Kong de-throned Mickie James, who had won the Best Female category for three straight months. Kong didn't even finish in the Top Five the previous month, but had a resurgence on Impact during October.
Match of the Month
(1) John Cena vs. Randy Orton Iron Man - Bragging Rights (36 percent)
(2) A.J. Styles vs. Kurt Angle - Super Impact (25 percent)
(3) Christian vs. Yoshi Tatsu - 10/27 ECW TV (10 percent)
(4t) John Cena vs. Triple H - 10/19 Raw (5 percent)
(4t) Kurt Angle vs. Matt Morgan - Bound for Glory (5 percent)
Promo(s)s of the Month
(1) Kofi Kingston on Randy Orton - 10/26 Raw (20 percent)
(2) Desmond Wolfe introductory promos (19 percent)
(3) The Miz-John Morrison Dirt Sheet - 10/16 Smackdown (17 percent)
(4) Chris Jericho's weekly promos on Raw guest hosts (15 percent)
(5) C.M. Punk on The Undertaker & Fans (8 percent) After winning the category four straight months, C.M. Punk was nearly knocked out of the Top Five for the Best Promos of the month.
PPV/TV episode/Event of the Month
(1) TNA Bound for Glory PPV (23 percent)
(2) WWE Bragging Rights PPV (19 percent)
(3) TNA Impact 10/22 - Desmond Wolfe's debut (11 percent)
(4) Decade of Smackdown episode - 10/2 SD (10 percent)
(5) WWE Hell in a Cell PPV (9 percent)

(2) Kofi Kingston dumps paint on Randy Orton's car to begin feud (23 percent)
(3) Batista turns heel on Rey Mysterio (12 percent)
(4) ECW Title program with Christian, Yoshi, Regal (9 percent)
(5) Legacy teases dissension with Randy Orton (9 percent)
Rising Star of the Month
(1) Kofi Kingston (43 percent)
(2) Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe) (35 percent)
(3) Ted DiBiase, Jr. (5 percent)
(4) Yoshi Tatsu (5 percent) John Morrison had won the category four straight months, but we did not include him in the October polls. We determined that he did not do anything significant to continue being elevated as a star, as he has already arrived at "star status." Other wrestlers were given a strong enough boost to warrant more attention in the category.
Crashing Star of the Month
(1t) C.M. Punk (22 percent)
(1t) Booker T (22 percent)
(3) Hulk Hogan's Legacy joining TNA (16 percent)
(4) Evan Bourne (8 percent)
(5t) Carlito (7 percent)
(5t) Matt Hardy (7 percent) Punk wins the "What Have You Done For Me Lately" category this month, as Punk had won the MVP, Best Promos, and Best Storytelling categories four straight months before being discarded to the Crashing Star category. It's understandable considering the perception of his feud against The Undertaker is that Punk did not benefit from being involved with one of Smackdown's top stars.
