Missed out on the top stories over the weekend? Following is our recap of the top stories you might have missed during a non-PPV weekend.
(2) Kurt Angle flips the script. In an interview that we published details of this weekend, Kurt Angle changed his mind and said he blames himself, not Vince McMahon, for leaving WWE in 2006 to jump to TNA. Angle apologized for ripping McMahon three years ago. He also made it sound like he's leaving pro wrestling when his TNA contract expires to become the next Rock. Angle sounds like he's done with wrestling and Angle says he was wrong, not McMahon.
(3) Hulk Hogan Day. Hulk Hogan Appreciation Day was Friday in Chicago to coincide with a major wrestling card at Toyota Park. Hogan was "working hurt" following recent back surgeries, said he had a WM25 match in place before the injuries, and said he's working on a new reality TV show focusing on him overcoming obstacles when he could have become another dead pro wrestler statistic. Hogan talks reality show and WM25 and Hogan critical of Austin and Rock, says he was supposed to be dead.
(4) Seth Green announced for Raw. WWE announced that Seth Green will be the Celebrity Guest Host for tonight's episode of Raw. Green is promoting the season debut of his "Robot Chicken" TV show that airs on Cartoon Network. Triple H will be providing a voice-over on the season premiere Sunday, July 26. WWE announcement.
(5a) Newsweek publishes USA-WWE story. Newsweek Magazine published a story on USA Network president Bonnie Hammer, with emphasis on her relationship with WWE and Vince McMahon. They included a story on Hammer calling camera shots from home during an episode of Raw featuring risque content. Newsweek story details.
(5b) Rey Mysterio beats Chris Jericho. WWE shifted the fourth match in the recent series of terrific matches between Rey Mysterio and Jericho to free TV on Friday Night Smackdown. The match was just as good as the previous three PPV matches, ending with Rey defeating Jericho to retain the IC Title. Edge and Dolph Ziggler then provided run-ins against Rey in the final shot of Edge healthy for the next six months. Greg Parks's SD TV Report and SD Roundtable Reviews.
