Missed out on the top stories over the weekend? Following is our recap of the top stories you might have missed while grillin' and chillin' over the Fourth of July weekend.
(1) Edge seriously injured. Unified tag champion Edge was seriously injured at a house show in San Diego on Friday night. Edge reportedly tore the Achilles tendon in his ankle, which will require just a month to heal. Never mind recovery time, which could put him out for at least six months total. WWE has yet to acknowledge the injury while they figure out what to do storyline-wise. WWE house show report with a first-hand account of Edge's injury and Medical update on Edge from Saturday
(2) Jeff Hardy talks contract status. The update on Jeff Hardy is that there is no update. Hardy will continue to wait out the remaining few weeks on his current WWE contract while deciding whether to continue wrestling or not. Hardy discussed the situation in a European TV interview. Read Hardy's quotes.
(3) WWE exec explains PPV name change game. WWE decided to shake up the names of their annual "off-brand" PPVs because they felt the names were staler than old bread. WWE also believes they are on-target with PPV buy expectations ... after lowering expectations. Read a WWE executive's explanation of the PPV buys picture.
(4) TNA loses video game home. Time Warner swooped in like a vulture in the middle of the desert to buy what was left of Midway Games... except for the studio in San Diego that produced TNA's first video game. Now, TNA is without a home for its video game franchise. A Midway spokesperson said about TNA's video game future with Midway: "I dunno." Read the TNA video game report.
(5) Cena says status quo in ten years. John Cena says he hopes to be doing the same thing in ten years: wrestling full-time and doing movies. Perhaps he'll expand the genre in 2019 to do a parody of "The Marine" by then. Read Cena's interview on "feud" vs. The Rock.
