TNA Wednesday Night PPV Report
September 8, 2004
Live from Nashville, Tenn.
Report by Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Mike Tenay introduced the show, then they went to Jeremy Borash for ring introductions...

(1) Frankie Kazarian and Mikey Batts were the final two in a battle royal at 7:30 also with Johnny Devine, Petey Williams, Shark Boy, D-Ray 3000, Delirious, Sonjay Dutt, Michael Shane, Jerelle Clark, Amazing Red, and Chris Sabin. Because Kazarian and Batts were the final two, they and their respective partners moved on to a tag match. The battle royal seemed rushed, but okay. (*)

(2) Mikey Batts & Jerelle Clark beat Frankie Kazarian & Michael Shane at 4:36. A surprise upset with a schoolboy by Batts on Shane. (*)

Scott Hudson interviewed Christopher Daniels & Primetime (Elix Skipper) backstage. Daniels gave his best TNA promo to date, other than saying "Triple X has always been two men with like minds." Triple X was actually once three men. The Naturals then attacked them.

(3) Erik Watts & Sonny Siaki & Desire beat Abyss & Alex Shelley & Goldy Locks when Desire pinned Goldy at 7:45. In the end, Abyss grabbed Desire. Goldy scolded Abyss for some reason. Abyss finally snapped after Goldy slapped him. He grabbed Goldy and let go of Desire. Erik Watts's wife was also standing on the ring apron screaming at Abyss. Abyss gave Goldy a backbreaker, which got a pop. Desire then covered Goldy for the win. (3/4*)

Hudson interviewed Scott D'Amore backstage. D'Amore was wearing one of Terry Taylor's sequined robes. Good promo, if not a bit long.

(4) A.J. Styles pinned Kid Kash at 12:36 in a tables match. They backstage to show medics working on Daniels's shoulder backstage. Styles and Kash brawled at ringside. Kash scored the first point by back suplexing Styles through a table propped in the corner. Styles then knocked Kash off the ring apron through a table at ringside to even the score. In the end, Dallas tried to hit Styles as he battled Kash on the top rope, but Dallas hit Kash by mistake. Styles then gave Kash a Styles Clash through a table to win. An enjoyable clustermess of a gimmick match. (**3/4)

As Styles returned to the back, Petey Williams attacked him and threw him back into the ring. Dallas helped beat down Styles. Williams then gave Styles the Canadian Destroyer. Kash then hit a frog splash. 3 Live Kru ran out for the save.

Hudson interviewed Dusty Rhodes backstage. Dusty said something about people pushing the car he's driving or something. I'm sure this all makes sense in his head, but it comes out sounding like the late Marlon Brando. Dusty closed out by saying, "I'm moving up to the East Side, baby." I would have paid money to watch a three hour PPV just of Dusty and Brando talking to each other.

(5) Dusty Rhodes pinned Scott D'Amore (with Vince Russo as special referee) at 6:45. A slow motion match that went way too long. The intrigue of Russo refereeing a Dusty match was supposed to add intrigue, but it didn't. Dusty elbowed Russo on purpose at 5:45. Russo was going to hit Dusty with a baseball bat, but instead yelled at him. Dusty then dropped an elbow on D'Amore for the win. Afterward, Russo offered a handshake to Dusty. Team Canada attacked Dusty from behind. 3 Live Kru made the save.

Hudson interviewed The Naturals who celebrated that Daniels was too injured to wrestle as scheduled. They mocked the candidates who they might face instead.

(6) Chris Harris & Primetime beat The Naturals at 12:25 to capture the NWA Tag Team Titles. James Storm was too injured to wrestle, also, so Larry Zbyszko announced he was putting the remaining two partners together as an impromptu team. They won after Primetime KO'd Stevens with a chair before Stevens could hit him with a chair, then Harris finished off Douglas. A blah match. (*)

Don West and Mike Tenay finally mentioned the Nov. 7 Sunday PPV debut and the "best of" PPVs coming up the next three weeks... Vignettes aired on the Jeff Jarrett vs. Jeff Hardy feud.

(7) Jeff Jarrett pinned Jeff Hardy at 11:09 to retain the NWA World Hvt. Title. They had brief pullapart brawls several times before the bell. The finish was overbooked. The finishing sequence included an unprovoked Dusty coming to ringside to interfere against Jarrett, yanking him out of the ring after he legally grabbed the ropes to break a Hardy submission. Dusty and Jarrett brawled briefly. Russo then ran to ringside to scold Dusty for interfering once again. Russo had a bat with him. He set the bat on the ring apron. Hardy grabbed the bat. Russo got into a tug-o-war with Hardy over the bat. Jarrett then blindsided Hardy with a Stroke attempt. Hardy blocked it and hit a sloppy Stroke-like move of his own. He then went to the top rope, but missed his Swanton finisher. Jarrett then grabbed his guitar and KO'd Hardy, leading to the ref returning to the ring and counting the pin. (*1/2)
