On February 11, 1990, 25 years ago today, Hvt. boxing champion Mike Tyson was shockingly upset by Buster Douglas in Tokyo, Japan.

The result had ramifications on WWF programming, as Tyson was scheduled to referee a rare WWF Title match on broadcast television - Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage in a re-match from WrestleMania 5.

However, after the result, WWF booked Buster Douglas as the special ref for Hogan-Savage on NBC's "The Main Event" Saturday, February 23.

The special scored a 12.8 rating, topping the previous year's rating. This secured WWF another NBC special later in the year on November 30.

Meanwhile, Tyson's big WWF splash was delayed eight years until he was part of the build-up for one of the most important WWF Title matches of the modern-era when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin beat Shawn Michaels at WM14 to usher in the Stone Cold Era.
