TNA VICTORY ROAD PPV RESULTS
NOVEMBER 7, 2004
ORLANDO, FLA.
REPORT BY WADE KELLER, PWTORCH EDITOR

Originally Published PWTorch Newsletter #834 for VIP members.

Mike Tenay and Don West introduced the show. They went to footage of Jeff Jarrett arriving in a limo. He was wearing orange jeans. Carlito says, "Not cool."

(1) Hector Garza won a 20-man Gauntlet X Division Battle Royal at 26:53. The match included Frankie Kazarian, Sonjay Dutt, Puma, L.A. Park (La Parka) Jerelle Clark, Miyamoto, Michael Shane, Mikey Batts, Alex Shelley, Matt Sydal, Sonny Siaki, Nosawa, Jason Cross, Shark Boy, Psicosis, D-Ray 3000, Amazing Red, Brian "Spanky" Kendrick, and Chris Sabin. They did a big pyramid suplex spot late in the match. Otherwise, lots of nice moves, but largely just a disjoined collection of spots with a lot of wrestlers standing around watching others fight. (***)

Scott Hudson announced Dusty Rhodes was ten points ahead of Vince Russo in voting. They spoofed the presidential electoral system by saying Russo was ahead in New York, Dusty was ahead in Texas, and the votes from Stamford, Conn. had been lost. Not really funny.

Kid Kash, Dallas, and The Naturals were interviewed. Kash said he was in charge.

(2) Ron "The Truth" Killings & Johnny B. Badd & Pat Kenney & Erik Watts beat The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens) & Dallas & Kid Kash at 4:45. Killings scored the pin after Badd gave Stevens a top rope huracanrana. (*)

(3) Mascarita Sagrada beat Pirata Morgan in 3:00. Entertaining, but inconsequential. (1/2*)

They showed Abyss, and later Raven and Monty Brown, locked up backstage where they said they had been in the dark without food or water all day to prepare for their match.

Scott Hall cut a mid-ring promo vowing that "the best Jeff would win." He said Kevin Nash wouldn't be there, but the crowd didn't seem to buy it. He looked "cleaned up" with dyed black hair.

(4) Konnan & B.G. James beat Eric Young & Bobby Roode (w/Scott D'Amore) at 6:35 to capture the NWA Tag Team Titles. D'Amore, of course, attempted to interfere, but Killings stopped him. Konnan face-slammed Roode and scored the pin. (*)

Roddy Piper walked to the ring for his "In the Pit with Piper" segment. He introduced Jimmy Snuka as his guest (see "Top Five Stories," pg. 1).

(5) Trinity pinned Jacqueline at 1:50. Before the match Glenn Gilberti and Johnny Swinger joined Trinity in the ring. Trinity said nobody answered her challenge. Miss Jacqueline then came out and yanked her off the shoulders of Gilberti and Swinger. Trinity won thanks to interference from her men. (1/4*)

(6) Monty Brown beat Raven and Abyss at 8:25. They brawled all over the arena, which hadn't been done at all yet on the show, so it seemed fresh. Abyss poured hundreds of thumb tacks onto the mat, but Brown blocked an Abyss suplex and Raven knocked Abyss onto the tacks. The fans gasped. Tacks were stuck to the bleeding skin of Abyss's back and arms. Raven knocked Abyss off the ring apron onto a table on the floor. Abyss then gave Raven a Pounce into a table propped in the corner for the win. (**1/2)

(7) Petey Williams beat A.J. Styles at 9:49 to retain the X Title. Really good first-half of a four-star match, but they ran short on time. D'Amore distracted Styles leading to Petey hitting the Canadian Destroyer. (***)

(8) Christopher Daniels & Primetime beat America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) at 11:12. Terrible match, mainly because Primetime suffered an early concussion. Lots of blown spots. Afterward, Daniels and Primetime handcuffed Harris and Storm to each other and bashed them with chairs. Security came out to restore order. (*)

Tenay announced Dusty Rhodes won voting 56.6 to 44.4 percent. Dusty cut a promo about TNA revolutionizing the industry and announced a six-sided cage match for the Dec. 5 PPV. He implied WWE officials were watching and saw they had a fight on their hands.

(9) Jeff Jarrett beat Jeff Hardy at 18:32 in a ladder match to retain the NWA World Hvt. Title. (See "Top Five Stories," for details... (***1/4)

Top Five Stories: In the main event of TNA's first three-hour PPV, Nov. 7's "Victory Road," Jeff Jarrett retain the NWA World Hvt. Title against Jeff Hardy in a ladder match. They wrestled nearly 20 minutes, fitting in a variety of ladder spots, including a number of innovations on using the ladder. Half-way into the match, Hardy leaped off a ladder with a Swanton Splash on Jarrett, at which point Scott Hall ran to the ring and gave Hardy a Razor's Edge. Hall told the crowd earlier that Kevin Nash, scheduled to be in Hardy's corner, was not at the event. Hardy attacked Hall in return, then whipped Hall into Jarrett. Latter, Hall entered the ring with a chair, but Hardy kicked the chair into Hall's face. Jarrett came back with a guitar shot, then climbed the ladder. Nash then walked toward the ring. Jarrett stopped just short of grabbing the NWA Title belt dangling over the ring, got slack-jawed, and waited for Nash to walk to the ring. Nash held two guitars. When Nash got to the ring, rather than defend Hardy, he handed Hall a guitar. They took turns beating Hardy just as Hardy was about to grab the belt. Jarrett then grabbed the belt to win the match. Nash and Hall issued an open challenge. A.J. Styles, Konnan, B.G. James, and Ron Killings answered it. As everyone brawled, Randy Savage made a surprise appearance in the aisle and the show ended.....

Randy Savage made a surprise appearance at the end of TNA's Victory Road PPV in what was supposed to be the beginning of a main event run for Savage. Two days later, he cancelled his TV taping appearance, citing the involvement of Hulk Hogan in TNA as his reason. Hogan was invited to attend the TNA PPV, near his Florida home, by TNA owner Bob Carter, father of TNA president Dixie Carter. When Hogan arrived, he bumped into Savage. Savage and Hogan have had a love-hate relationship over the years, with 90 percent hate on Savage's end since Hogan's wife Linda provided a safe haven for Savage's then-wife Elizabeth when she separated from him. Hogan told Savage backstage something to the effect of, "You know I've always got your back, bro." Savage snapped back, "Yeah, that check'll clear." Then Savage walked away and avoided Hogan the rest of the night. Hogan is negotiating to join TNA both as an on-air performer and in a power position behind the scenes. Everything from being a part owner to booker has been talked about. Savage, now 52 years old, informed Jeff Jarrett late on Tuesday afternoon he wasn't going to attend that evening's taping as scheduled, saying he wouldn't work with TNA as long as they were working with Hogan.
