WCW GREAT AMERICAN BASH RESULTS
June 11, 2000
Baltimore, Md.
Report by Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson, and Mark Madden introduced the show. They showed police officers outside the arena.

(1) Chavo Guerrero Jr. (w/Misfits) beat Disco Inferno (w/Filthy Animals) at 4:54 to retain the WCW Cruiserweight Title. Hugh Morrus led the Misfits to the ring and engaged in a skit ending when Chavo Jr. pulled out a toy grenade that got zero crowd heat. Some solid exchanges early with the two factions getting into it at ringside. At 3:35 Hugh Morrus's grandfather showed up at ringside. Konnan and Juvi came to the ring. Konnan shoved Hugh's grandfather. Juvi missed with the People's Elbow. Disco gave Chavo Jr. a stunner. Lash LaRoux then gave Disco a Russian legsweep and draped Chavo on top for the win. Major Gunns woke up grand daddy with mouth-to-mouth. He came back to life for a second, then passed out again. He woke up again and tried to get on her, but the other wrestlers intervened quickly. (*1/4)

Backstage members of security assured Eric Bischoff and The Cat that Goldberg was not in and could not get in the arena... Schiavone plugged that PPV viewers could send in their cable bill and get a free Hulkster raft. Madden said there would be a lot of free Hogan merchandise available after tonight...

(2) Kronic beat The Mamalukes at 9:20 to become no. 1 tag title contenders. The match, which was never smooth, completely broke down at 8:00 when Johnny powerslammed Clark, but then stood around and didn't know what to do next. At 8:30 Johnny tried a Bull Buchanan leap onto the top rope, but missed on his first attempt. He made it to the top rope on the second attempt, but the crowd was pretty unforgiving. He dove off the ropes, but Clark moved before he could hit him. Big Vito left Johnny to fend for himself in the ring as he shined his Hardcore Title belt (which he wore throughout the match). Kronic then finished off Johnny with their finisher. (1/2*)

(3) Mike Awesome beat Dallas Page. Page wheeled Kanyon onto the stage in a wheelchair. It was the first appearance of Kanyon at a WCW arena since being thrown off the cage at the last PPV. Page won an early battle of dueling chairs. At 3:20 Awesome powerbombed Page through a ringside table. The paramedics threw Page onto the gurney, but couldn't get to the back before Page rolled off of it. At 5:20 Awesome hit Page with two big splashes. On the third try, Page moved and Awesome hit the mat hard. Kimberly entered the ring and hit Page with a lead pipe. Miss Hancock dragged Kimberly to the back by the hair. Page blocked an Awesome Bomb and turned it into a Diamond Cutter from off the top rope. Awesome was stretchered toward the back. Bischoff's music played and he came out with a chair. Page nailed Bischoff with a chair. Kanyon got out of the wheelchair and gave Page a Diamond Cutter off the rampway onto a lower stage made of cardboard. Kanyon ripped off his t-shirt revealing a "New Blood" t-shirt underneath. Kanyon put Page onto the stretcher and Awesome wheeled him into the ambulance to win the match. A largely well executed match that told a story. (**1/4)

Hudson said he couldn't believe Kanyon would turn on Page after Page spent so much time at his bedside in the hospital. Madden said Page was Kanyon's friend as long as Kanyon was a mid-carder, but Page didn't want him to rise. Schiavone wondered what the story was behind Kanyon's turn; was he recruited?

(4) G.I. Bro beat Shawn Stasiak in a Boot Camp match. There was nothing wrong with the match other than it was totally unmemorable. Booker came back at 10:40 with a largely bland comeback other than a lightning fast chokeslam. He followed with a missile dropkick (which Stasiak set up really well with believable staggering). Chuck Palumbo came to the ring to interfere, but Booker fended him off. Stasiak hit Booker from behind with the flexer. They attacked Booker two-on-one to absolutely no crowd heat. Booker came back, KO'd Stasiak with the flexer, and won. (**)

Okerlund interviewed Kanyon in the back. He said nobody visited him in the hospital more than Bischoff. He said Bischoff told him he could be bigger than Page if he took Page out. Footage aired of Page getting out of the ambulance. The Goldberg monster truck was seen in the background.

(5) Shane Douglas beat The Wall at 8:40 in a tables match. Before the match, Douglas made the table match best of nine. Wall took an early lead by slamming Douglas through two tables. In the end, they battled on top of a ladder next to two stacked tables (which Hudson said was "at least three"). Douglas shoved Wall off the ladder and Wall went through two tables. Somehow those two tables gave Douglas the win. Hudson inexplicably insisted it was three tables, but Schiavone kept saying it was two. It was actually two tables on a platform. The finish took away from the match. The fact that the announcers couldn't agree on how many tables were stacked was ridiculous, as was the match ending after Wall only went through two tables. (*1/4)

(6) Scott Steiner beat Tank Abbott at 3:47. At the start of the match, the ring announcer said since the Asylum Cage is Steiners's choice of match, to "create an even playing field" Bischoff and Russo added Rick Steiner to the match. As the cage (slowly) lowered around the three wrestlers, the crowd chanted "Goldberg" briefly. Tank was going to use a chain on Scott, but Rick said not to use it. Tank agreed, but then went for it anyway. Rick blocked it, but took the brunt of the blow. Scott got the chain, hit Tank, and applied the Steiner Recliner for the win. (1/4*)

Schiavone said in a short time there would be a big announcement. A limo drove up and Schiavone said maybe this had something to do with the surprise. Ric Flair and his family got out. The Goldberg truck could be seen in the background... Okerlund interviewed Hollywood Hogan backstage. Hogan said he took on a new look because he needs to reinvent himself and change with the times. A terrible interview full of tired cliches.

(7) Hulk Hogan pinned Kidman at 11:36. At 3:20 Hogan took over with a mule kick. Hogan then took off his weight belt and swung it over his head to get crowd heat. As soon as Kidman rose to his feet, Hogan whipped him. Kidman rolled out of the ring. At 6:40 Kidman came back and gave Hogan a DDT onto a chair. He got a two-count. The crowd didn't think for a second it would end. Kidman hit a frog splash for another two-count. Again, no pop from the crowd. Nobody thought Kidman had a chance to win clean. Why would they? Horace called the match straight to this point. Before the match Hogan did say "blood is thicker than New Blood." As Hogan began his Superman comeback, the crowd chanted "Hogan, Hogan." Hogan did the usual comeback routine, but before he went to the legdrop, he took the action to ringside. Hogan threw Kidman onto the announcing table, shattering it. Torrie Wilson came out and distracted Hogan. Hogan pulled out brass knuckles. Kidman kneed a distracted Hogan from behind, knocking him into Torrie, knocking her off the apron. Kidman hit Hogan with the brass knux and got a near fall. The crowd did react somewhat for that near fall. As Kidman punched away at Hogan, Horace threw Kidman off of Hogan. Kidman then KO'd Horace with the knux. Torrie entered the ring and low-blowed Kidman from behind. Hogan then scored the pin. (3/4*)

Bischoff was on the phone yelling at someone. Security entered the room and checked on Bischoff. Bischoff chewed him out for allowing the Goldberg truck onto the premises. Security assured him everything was under control.

Okerlund interviewed Flair who gave a hyper, energetic promo, but he was really just going through the motions. There was no sense of seriousness that his career was on the line or that he was in a position to have to fight his son.

(8) Ric Flair beat David Flair (w/Vince Russo) at 10:14. At 1:40 Ric Flair did the turnbuckle flip, but ended up in the ring again. They fought at ringside briefly. At 2:40 David applied a sleeper. Ric ripped off David's shirt and laid in some stiff chops. Ric strutted. David ducked Ric and came back with a clothesline, sending Ric to the floor. Russo then attacked Ric with a baseball bat and handcuffed Ric's hands together. David then went on offense on his father in the ring. Russo helped David with leverage while he had a figure-four on Ric. Russo then choked Ric. Reid Flair came over the barricade and gave Russo a low-blow from behind, then entered the ring and uncuffed Ric's daughter, then handcuffed Russo at ringside. Ric took control of David in the ring. At 9:12 David poked Ric in the eyes, then went to the top rope. Ric slammed David off the top rope and then gave him a kneedrop. He followed up with a figure-four and got the win. Russo entered the ring, but Ric ripped off his shirt and nailed him with a stiff chop. Reid then entered the ring and hugged his father. Ric's wife and two daughters entered next. After the match Russo ranted about Ric and his family. They mocked him with the DX chops. Russo promised to cripple Ric's ass on Nitro. (**1/4)

(9) Vampiro beat Sting at 7:22 in a torch match. A fake Sting came out and raised a torch. The real Sting was standing on top of the scaffolding for big screen and told Vampiro if he wants to torch him, he would have to come get him. Vampiro complained. Sting then came down the side of the big screen on a rope and went to the ring. At 1:20 Vampiro poured gasoline over the body of Sting. They fought to the stage. Vampiro began climbing up the side of the cage on his own. Sting climbed after Vamp. Vamp knocked Sting off the side and Sting fell through some padding. Vampiro then scaled the big screen scaffolding to get the torch. Sting recovered from his fall and followed Vamp to the top. They fought up there for a minute as the crowd went silent. Special lighting effects simulated thunder and lighting as they fought up there. Vampiro got the torch and set Sting on fire. "Sting," covered in flames, stumbled off the side of the cage and fell to the floor. The person playing "Sting" tucked and landed on his back. A number of people began spraying him with fire extinguishers. The announcers began selling it as if "Steve Borden, a father and a husband," just died. Paramedics carried Sting away on a stretcher. They replayed the fall several times. (*1/2)

Backstage Pam interviewed Bischoff, asking what his surprise was. Bischoff said there was too much disorder, so "your big surprise is no surprise."

(10) Jeff Jarrett pinned Kevin Nash at 16:22 to retain the WCW Hvt. Title. Before the match began, Cat came out and said he had some important celebrities to introduce. Cat introduced the special bell ringer Konnan, special time keeper Rey Mysterio Jr., special belt keeper Disco Inferno, special ring announcer Juventud, and himself as special enforcer referee. Nash looked on disgusted. Nash took early advantage. At 1:10 Jarrett came back with a series of punches in the corner. The crowd chanted "Goldberg." At 3:40 they fought into the crowd. A minute later they returned to ringside. Rey Jr. hit Nash with a chair. Jarrett worked over Nash's leg for three minutes as Nash earned his paycheck lying on the mat doing nothing. At 10:00 Nash tried to reverse a figure-four, but Jarrett held his position. Nash reached the ropes. Jarrett yelled at the ref. Meanwhile, Konnan hit Nash with the title belt. Seconds later Nash was 100 percent for his comeback with no limp. He fended off the Filthy Animals. Jarrett tried to hit Nash with the belt. Nash grabbed it and KO'd Jarrett. When he went for the cover, Disco entered the ring and attacked the ref. Nash went after Disco at ringside. The Animals attacked Nash and threw him into the ring. Cat entered the ring. Jarrett eventually draped his arm over Nash, but Nash kicked out. The Animals attacked Nash again, but he fended them off with big boots. Jarrett gave Nash the Stroke and got a near fall. Jarrett came off the top rope with the guitar, but Nash sidestepped him and slammed him to the mat. Cat counted to two, then stopped because he "got something in his eye." Nash flattened Cat, then gave Jarrett the big boot. Nash then gave Jarrett the Jackknife. When ref Charles Robinson ran out to make the count, Disco stopped him. Rick Steiner and Tank Abbott came out. Scott Steiner came out to stop Tank. The Animals again ganged up on Nash. Rey Jr. gave Nash the Rough Rider. Goldberg's music then started. The Goldberg monster truck drove out. Goldberg entered the ring and speared Nash. Goldberg told Jarrett to cover Nash. The ref then counted Jarrett pinning Nash. Bischoff and Russo came out and Goldberg hugged them. (*)
