WWF RAW - 10/4 (5.9 rating)
(Live from East Rutherford, N.J.)... [Q1: 5.2]... Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler introduced the program. Ross called the WWF fans the greatest in the world as The New Age Outlaws came to the ring. USA tried to bleep "doggy style," but only bleeped "style." (1) The Acolytes beat X-Pac & Kane, New Age Outlaws, and The Hollys in a four-way tag match at 4:45. The Hollys and Outlaws were counted out. X-Pac wouldn't tag Kane because he wanted to prove he could come back without his help. Kane entered the ring anyway leading to a four-way. In the end, Kane had Faarooq covered, but Bradshaw had X-Pac covered. Bradshaw and X-Pac were legal... Footage aired from the UK PPV where Bulldog confronted the McMahons backstage about wanting his title shot. He threw a metal trash can in frustration which hit Stephanie in the head. Bulldog said it was an accident... Bulldog said McMahon turned his own country against him. He said he doesn't give a damn about any country, he just wants the title. He said women don't belong in wrestling, so it was McMahon's fault she was even in the room to get hit...
[Q2: 5.6]... Chyna then stepped out onto the rampway and said it sounded as if he had a problem with women. She challenged him to a match to see if his bite is as bad as his bark... Ross and Lawler previewed the rest of Raw... Backstage, Mankind said he had something to say to Rock and it wasn't going to be easy... [C]... Mankind told Rock backstage that if he ever needs him, he will be there for him, but he'll make it on his own... Michael Hayes interviewed Test who said Stephanie didn't do anything to deserve the attack. When Hayes asked Test if her condition affected the wedding, Test said she doesn't even recognize him because of the post-concussion syndrome... Backstage Mae Young and Fabulous Moolah attacked Ivory... [C]...
[Q3: 6.1]... (2) Edge & Christian beat Matt & Jeff Hardy at 4:20 in a best-of-five series match to win the services of Terri. Terri did color and Lawler kept making middle-aged horny passes at her. Jeff hit a graceful floating flip headbutt onto Edge. Edge tried to spear Matt, but he had trouble reversing Matt's momentum coming off the top rope. He still managed to cover him for the three count. The finish wasn't as smooth as they had hoped, but the action overall was solid for a highspot happy match... They showed Triple H backstage approaching the entryway... [C]... Michael Cole interviewed X-Pac and Kane. X-Pac said he still intends to prove he belongs in the land of f---ing giants. USA bleeped the swear word... Triple H came to the ring and invited Ross to enter it and enjoy an interview on tape from Austin who didn't have the guts to be in the same arena with him. Ross said he wasn't interested in getting into the ring. Triple H guaranteed his safety and brought a chair into the ring for Ross to sit on. Lawler told Ross to go ahead because Triple H wouldn't dare do anything to him with him (Lawler) sitting there. Ross said he didn't really have much of a choice so he got into the ring. Triple H asked Bruce (Prichard) to play the interview Ross got with Austin...
[Q4: 6.7]... A taped interview played of Ross saying that Austin's doctor hasn't cleared him to wrestle yet. Austin said his motivation during his rehab is watching a tape of Triple H working over his knee at SummerSlam. Austin said, "If you ever piss me off, you always get a payback." He said nobody pays back better than Austin. Back in the ring, Triple H said those were pretty threatening words for a guy who wasn't in the arena. Triple H asked Ross to tell him what Austin thinks of him. Ross wouldn't answer. Hunter told him he won't shoot the messenger. Ross said, "He thinks you're an asshole." It went unbleeped. After another question, Triple H clotheslined Ross off of the folding chair and began kicking away at him. Lawler blamed Ross for provoking Triple H with his words. The crowd didn't seem especially outraged... Terry Taylor interviewed Jeff Jarrett, Miss Kitty, and Ivory backstage. Jarrett said when he was done knocking the osteoporosis out of the two old hags, he'd let Ivory finish them off... [C]... Backstage Mankind talked with the two stars of the "G vs. E" TV series... Michael Cole joined Lawler at ringside replacing the battered Ross... (3) Fabulous Moolah & Mae Young beat Miss Kitty (w/Jeff Jarrett) & Ivory when Moolah pinned Kitty. Lawler said he told Moolah to act her age and die. After the match Jarrett scolded Miss Kitty, then he gave her a figure-four... Mankind had his cheeks powdered and said he has to look his best for his surprise for Rock later...
[Q5: 5.9]... [C This break took place just as Bret vs. Benoit started on Nitro]... They showed the New York City skyline from the Meadowlands... GTV showed Droz vomiting into D-Lo's bag... Mankind came to the ring with the two stars of "G vs. E." He said he wanted to break up the Rock & Sock Connection. Rock then came out and said he wanted to make it clear he never wanted the Rock & Sock Connection in the first place. Mankind said he is going to dedicate his life and career to the legendary status of their tag team. He said he doesn't want to be known for flying off of cages or fighting in barbed wire, but instead he wanted to be known as one half of the greatest tag team ever. He started a "Rock & Sock" chant. Mankind said he feels as if they just got married. Rock raised an eyebrow and asked if Mankind just asked for his hand in marriage. Mankind said no, it was just a figure of speech. He said he doesn't want to end up like Skip and Zip, but wants to be like the Three Musketeers, the guys with the swords. Rock said if he likes swords so much, he can take just one sword and stick it straight - at which point Y2J interrupted Rock.
[Q6: 6.1]... Chris Jericho said he didn't want Rock and Mankind to waste the time of the people ever again. A Jericho lookalike ran into the ring and attacked Mankind. The cameras cut away quickly to Jericho saying, "Case in point." Rock told Jericho to keep his dad out of the ring, then told him to know his role and shut his mouth. Rock asked Jericho if he was supposed to be impressed because he was down South beating a jobroni named Juventud. Jericho signalled with his hands that he ripped off Juvi's mask. Lawler asked, "Who is Juventud?" Cole said, "I have no clue." Rock said he wasn't planning to wrestle, but because he pissed him off, he challenged the "little jobroni" to a match... [C]... Mankind talked to Stevie Richards backstage about the Rock segment. The Dudleys attacked both of them...
[Q7: 6.1]... (4) Chyna beat British Bulldog at 1:14 via DQ when Jarrett hit Chyna with a coffee urn. After the match, Bulldog got on the mic and told Chyna, "I told you there is no place for women in the WWF." Bulldog threatened to powerslam Chyna unless Triple H agreed to give her a title shot. Triple H didn't answer, so he powerslammed her. So who's the sympathetic figure in this angle?... Taylor interviewed The Dudleys backstage about attacking Mankind... (5) The Dudleys beat Mankind & Stevie "Dude Love" Richards at 3:43. Ross came back to ringside to take Cole's place. Just as the match started, Val Venis's music began. He pulled Mr. Rocko Johnson out of his open zipper and let it dangle to taunt Mankind. The four brawled onto the rampway as Val made his way to ringside. Buh Buh Ray and Mankind fought into Val's lap. Mankind put the Mandible Claw on Val, but behind him the Dudleys gave the 3D to Stevie for the win... Backstage Vince McMahon stepped out of a black limo... [C]... McMahon entered the ring and said he isn't going to ask Bulldog to apologize to him, the fans, or his country, but demanded he apologize to Stephanie. Bulldog walked out onto the stage and said he wouldn't apologize for something that's not his fault. McMahon said he wanted to beat an apology out of him. He seemed especially worked up, perhaps drawing upon his ire toward the defections of Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara. Bulldog said he was going to take the rest of the night off, then walked away...
[Q8: 5.8]... [C]... The Rock came to the ring and said Jericho thinks he has a fetish about sticking things up candy asses. He said after he beats him in the next match he would do the same to Mr. Hughes ... [C]... (6) The Rock pinned Chris Jericho at 7:43. At 4:00 Jericho applied the Walls of Jericho (old Lion Tamer). The crowd chanted "Rocky" as he crawled to the ropes to break the hold. Hughes distracted the referee, but for no apparent reason as Jericho simply kicked Rock out of the ring. They brawled at ringside. Jericho choked Rock with a cable. At 5:20 the lights in the arena went out. A spotlight came on in the ring and Jericho nailed Rock with a ring bell. He scored a two count. Ross said somebody messed with their lights. Lawler said it was a Y2J problem.
[Q9: 6.5]... After Rock DDT'd Jericho, Hughes grabbed the ref to stop the count. Hughes threw a chair into the ring, but Rock chokeslammed Jericho onto the chair. Rock hit the People's Elbow and scored the pin. Bulldog ran to the ring and attacked Rock in one of the worst looking run-in attacks you'll ever see. Meanwhile, at ringside Jericho chewed out Hughes for not helping him at the end of the match. McMahon walked to the ring, kicked Bulldog, and threw him into the ring so Rock could beat on him some more...
