WWE RAW REPORT
FEBRUARY 22, 1999
LIVE FROM CHATTANOOGA, TENN.

[Q1: 5.4]... A video package aired from last week's Raw featuring The Rock defeating Mankind to win the WWF Title... The opening montage aired... Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler introduced the show as Vince McMahon came to the ring. He talked about the Wrestlemania main event and mentioned that Rock would be facing "A man who truly earned his title match" Steve Austin. Vince introduced Paul Wight as the newest Corporate member. Wight came to the ring wearing a tank-top. Once Wight made it into the ring, Vince officially welcomed him to the WWF. A "Giant sucks" chant broke out. Wight said he walked out of hell's fire (WCW) and into heaven's gate (the WWF). Wight said he helped Rock defeat Mankind for Vince. Rock's music played and he came to the ring. Vince acted surprised, but introduced Rock as Wight clapped. Rock pulled out a mic and said he thought he heard a couple of boos when he came out, which prompted a "Rocky sucks" chant. He asked Vince, "Did this big jobroni say he single-handedly put the WWF Title around the Rock's waist?" Wight acknowledged he did and said he was surprised that it got through Rock's big head. Rock told him to shut his mouth and know his role. Wight said, "Hey Rock, no Pebble, you better shut your mouth or I'll shut it." Rock told him he was three seconds away from laying the smack down on his candy ass. Vince stepped between the two men, but Wight picked up Vince and set him aside. Rock and Wight jawed back and forth, but were interrupted by Mankind's music. Mankind came to the ring and offered to referee a Rock vs. Wight match. Vince said Mankind's taken too many shots to the head. Wight grabbed the mic and said he and Rock could talk all night or just get to the match. Rock agreed and left the ring. Wight walked to the back with Vince who pleaded with him not to take the match...

[Q2: 5.3]... After break, a shot aired from inside Team Corporate's locker room where the different members stepped between Wight and Rock... (1) Public Enemy beat Gangrel & Edge (w/Christian) by DQ when Christian interfered at 1:21. Public Enemy came to the ring and received a non-response from the crowd. Cole said P.E. claimed to be the kings of hardcore tag team wrestling. After some okay action, Christian ran in for no reason for the DQ. The lights went out and when they came back on P.E. had blood all over them, having received a blood bath... After break, a shot aired of the Brood kneeling in front of Undertaker and Paul Bearer, with the rest of the Ministry standing behind them. Undertaker told the Brood they needed to learn about pain and discipline and then the rest of the Ministry attacked them. The announcers played it off as a form of training for the Brood...

[Q3: 6.1]... (2) Billy Gunn fought Ken Shamrock to a no contest at 4:43. Val Venis sat in on commentary. Venis joked with Lawler about using Ryan Shamrock for more reasons than just getting to her brother. With Lawler leading him, Val did a decent job on commentary. In the end, Shamrock threw Gunn to the floor and Val got up and shoved him back into the ring. Shamrock left the ring and attacked Val. Gunn came back out and all three men brawled until several officials came out and broke them up. Ryan came to the ring and argued with Ken. Ken grabbed her by the arm and led her to the back... Inside the locker room, Vince pleaded with Rock not to wrestle Wight. Rock stood his ground and said the match would go on... Sable came to the ring for a promo as highlights aired of her appearance on Regis and Kathie Lee, as well as a shot of her on the cover of Playboy. Sable spotted her female fan in the audience and called her into the ring. The woman said her name was Torrie (beating WCW's Torrie Wilson to the punch). Sable chewed out Torrie, called her pathetic, and said she's a skank. Luna came to the ring. She told Sable all women couldn't be as beautiful as Sable and claimed the only reason Sable is WWF Ladie's Champion is because of her looks. Sable told her she doesn't care about the women, she only cares about the men. The crowd popped. Sable called for her music. Luna and Torrie started leaving the ring, but Sable hit them with her title belt...

[Q4: 5.6]... A shot aired of Vince pleading with Wight not to wrestle Rock. Wight said he didn't know what the problem was. He said he'd take the belt and be the figure-head, while Rock would have to learn the pecking order (sounds familiar)... (3) Jeff Jarrett & Owen Hart (w/Debra) beat D-Lo Brown in a two-on-one match when P.M.S. interfered at 3:25. Before the match, D-Lo said Jarrett & Hart had taken out Mark Henry and Ivory, so he decided to take them on himself. Late in the match, P.M.S. came to the ring. While Debra distracted the ref, Jackie climbed up to the top rope and dropkicked D-Lo into Owen, who hit D-Lo with the enzugiri and scored the pin... In the boiler room, Mankind barked out orders pretending to be a referee...

[Q5: 5.6]... Mankind came to the ring wearing a home-made referee shirt (a white t-shirt with black lines and a WWF logo drawn in). He also had Mr. Socko drawn up to look like a ref. Vince came to the ring, grabbed a mic, and announced to the crowd that the match wouldn't take place. He taunted Mankind, but Rock's music cut him off. Rock came to the ring and told Vince to go to the commentators' table and call the match. He called out Wight. Wight came to the ring wearing his usual ring outfit as generic music played. The bell rang to start the match and Wight shoved Rock in the face. He then turned and super kicked Mankind. Rock joined in and beat up Mankind as Vince laughed on commentary. Vince climbed into the ring and raised Rock and Wight's hands. Wight shook Rock's hand as they walked toward the back. Rock asked him why he shoved him by the face and Wight told him not to worry about it... (4) Steve Blackman beat Droz with a kick at 3:12. After the match Droz attacked Blackman and choked him out with one of the sticks Blackman twirls before his matches...

[Q6: 5.2]... A camera caught a shot through a curtain of Vince instructing Kane to destroy Undertaker... An Undertaker promo aired. He talked about taking over the WWF for his "Master"... (5) Goldust beat Val Venis in a non-title match when Blue Meanie interfered at 3:59. In the end, Blue Meanie came to ringside as Goldust and Val brawled at ringside. Goldust rolled back inside the ring and argued with the ref. Meanwhile, Meanie grabbed Val and gave him a great looking DDT on the floor. He rolled Val back into the ring and Goldust got the win...

[Q7: 5.5]... A shot aired of Shane McMahon posing in front of a mirror with Chyna at his side... (6) Bob Holly beat Bart Gunn to retain the Hardcore Title when Steve Williams interfered at 9:15. They immediately battled to ringside. Holly pulled a pitcher of water off the announcers desk and smashed it over Bart's head. He hit him with two chairshots, but Bart came back. Bart picked up a mug off the desk and slammed it over Holly's head. Later, Holly sprayed the obligatory fire extinguisher at Bart. Lawler covered up nicely by mentioning the extinguisher was at ringside for the Inferno match. Cole brought up the fact that Bart knocked out every competitor he faced in the Brawl for All except Holly. He also mentioned Holly's former name, Sparky Plug. Later, they battled onto the stage and Bart pulled out a watermelon from behind the curtain and smashed it over Holly's head. Holly came back and smashed a crate of bananas over Bart's head. Even Lawler questioned where the fruit came from and said he was waiting for Juan Valdez to walk out. A short time later, Bart picked up a sack of flour and beat Holly with it. A masked Steve Williams came out and threw Bart off the stage and through a table. Holly made the cover and got the win. The announcers pretended not to know it was Williams under the mask...

[Q8: 5.5]... (7) X-Pac (w/Hunter Hearst Helmsley beat Chyna (w/Shane McMahon) at 1:09 to earn a European Title shot at Wrestlemania. Shane interfered and X-Pac chased him around the ring. Meanwhile, as the ref chased X-Pac and Shane, Hunter climbed into the ring and gave Chyna the Pedigree. X-Pac rolled back in and got the pin... After break, Vince came to the ring carrying the envelope Undertaker gave him and warned the audience if they had weak stomachs they should leave. Vince introduced Kane... (8) Undertaker beat Kane in an inferno match at 6:45. Vince sat in on commentary. With regards to Undertaker's extortion threats, Vince repeatedly said, "Nobody goes there." He also hyped that it was the first time an inferno match had ever taken place on Raw. Paul Bearer came to ringside and gave Vince a black package. Vince opened the box and a teddy-bear was inside. Vince got up from the announcers' table without saying a word.

[Q9: 6.5]... Vince approached Paul Bearer and asked him what he was doing. Kane tossed Undertaker over the flames to ringside. Kane climbed up to the top rope and jumped out after Undertaker, but Undertaker moved and sent him crashing through a table. Undertaker took Kane's leg and set it on fire for the win. Undertaker took the teddy-bear from Vince and set it on fire. Vince dropped to his knees and said, "Oh no." Undertaker threw the bear up the rampway and Vince crawled after it as the show went off the air... [JP]
