Adam of New City, N.Y. (8.0): Best Match: HBK vs. Orton. Worst Match: Molly/Gail vs. Lita/Terri. Another good edition of Raw. They have the formula down: the writers stopped putting storylines in that piss off the fans! It's funny, one year ago they had Terri wrestle a match on Raw which I thought was her last one. The show flowed nicely. Although they had seven matches, it seemed like too much happened backstage but whatever. You can't go wrong with two HBK singles matches on Raw in a row. It would have been nice if they added Hurricane/Rosey vs. La Resistance to the PPV since they have been feuding on again and off again for weeks but then again, what's another PPV without the Hurricane? What is this, the 18th one in a row? Says something for the last man to pin The Rock on free TV. Either way, Raw was good. I hope they keep the momentum for next week when they have their Raw-only PPV.
Kenneth Le of Los Angeles, Calif. (2.0): Best Match: Booker vs. Jericho. Worst Match: Woman's Tag Match. I just want to make one thing clear. I think every single person who watches WWE knows that every time a freaking wrestler get's "escorted" out of the building, they always come back! Sorry, I'm just completely sick of that. Well let's just say that Raw was pretty bad tonight. After watching it, I think they've caught on that we all "know" that Triple H is getting the title back at Survivor Series, so knowing them, they'll try to trick us and give us a DQ finish and Goldberg vs. Triple H IV at Armageddon. RVD vs. Christian was very sloppy. The woman's match was horrible. What is the point of having freaking Terri in there in the first place? Orton vs. Michaels was nothing special. And J.R., for the third week in a row, calls Garrison Cade "Lance Cade." Yeah, it was all easy calling Shane Helms anything but "Shane." Speaking of Shane, I thought Shane's date with Kane was horrible. The least he could have done was pick Kane up at the dentist's office. But I guess the least Kane could have done was pick up the check. But still, as always, Jericho is the one bright spot week in and week out. I hope he gets some with Trish later on tonight. I'd recommend the restaurant Shane took Kane to, but then again, the service was awfully bad.
Corey Baird of Dartmouth, N.S. - Torch Newsletter subscriber (8.0): Another strong show! I can't remember the last time WWE strung together a month's worth of enjoyable Mondays! I think there have been some conscious decisions within WWE to do more long term planning and to make individual shows more spontaneous. They've really mixed things up, the order of the shows and especially people interrupting matches and promos expectedly. It's effectively shaken up what had become a very stale program. This particular show was far from perfect, in fact the poor treatment of women (tonight's show may have been the worst ever) made me question if Vinny Ru was back on board, and there were some dud matches. Of course that was helped by the deadly quiet crowd. Sheesh, c'mon guys. I can't understand the rationale behind jobbing Orton clean either, but since I don't like the guy I won't complain. Overall, hats off to WWE for a great job hyping a PPV that, on paper doesn't look all that good. I'm ordering it though because you've made me feel I'll miss something really important if I don't. That's classic WWE, and I hope we get more of it.
Michael Laboska of Washington D.C. (8.0): Best Match: Main Event. Worst Match: Women's. Tonight's Raw was a superb effort, doing everything from building up the PPV to looking towards the future. The Kane-Shane segment was interesting, as was Booker T's mysterious letter, Jericho's infatuation with Trish, Orton's bickering with Evolution, and the Austin-Bischoff interactions. I didn't want to see Goldberg standing at the end of the show, because as it usually is with the time tested "get your heat before you lose" rule, I don't want to see H get the belt back yet. There is still too much money in Goldberg and his defenses; if he is going to lose the title, it should really mean something. Hopefully, though, Raw can keep some momentum going after SS, as they are up for the December PPV, which will need to be a good one after the mixed reactions so far to the brand only PPVs.
A.B. Lipkin of Newark, Del. (6.0): Best Match: Tie: Rob Van Dam vs. Christian and Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton. Worst Match: Molly Holly & Gail Kim vs. Lita & Terri. The matches weren’t that bad, but the Shane/Kane restaurant vignette was terrible. Considering that WWE has tried to make Kane out to be a raving psychopath, it is pretty tough to believe that he could just walk into a restaurant and behave himself, even for ten minutes (that felt like twenty). For the matches, RVD-Christian was solid, and a nice change of pace from RVD’s recent high spot matches; ditto for Michaels-Orton. Didn't expect much from the women’s tag match, but Molly and Lita tried hard, and the PPV match should be good. La Resistance-Superrheroes was decent; good riddance Sylvan Grenier. Dudleys vs. Steiner & Henry was good until the DQ ending. Booker-Jericho was also good; I am intrigued about the "I still remember" note. The worst part of the show was Coach's entrances; at least the payoff was fun. The main event was good considering the participants. After this, the ten-man match and the heavyweight match seemed better, but the restaurant scene took some momentum from Kane-Shane. R.I.P. Michael Lockwood.
