Originally published: Pro Wrestling Torch Weekly newsletter #475
Cover dated: January 17, 1998

(Taped Dec. 26 in Queens, N.Y.)... The show opened with Joey Styles standing mid-ring as fans chanted, "Philly sucks sh--." They cut away from Styles somewhat suddenly and awkwardly to Great Sasuke vs. Tiger Mask in progress. Jason and Justin Credible showed up at ringside. Sasuke gave Jason a tope onto the floor. Tiger followed with dive over the top rope onto Sasuke on the floor. The finishing sequence then began with Tiger getting a couple of nearfalls, followed by Sasuke nailing Tiger with a jump reverse sidekick and a spinning hook kick followed by an Edge for the pinfall. Styles said Sasuke was back in the U.S. and back in ECW, headed for a showdown with Justin Credible... They aired the ring entrance of Chris Candido, Lance Wright, and Francine followed by a brief in-ring promo with New Jack & Spike Dudley, but didnt explain why either aired since those matches didn't air...

Justin Credible (w/Jason) was introduced for his match. Before the match Jason brought out three women as gifts for Justin. Jason then brought out Nichole Bass, the 6-2, 200-plus pound manly bodybuilder who has appeared on the Howard Stern Show and Howard Stern movie. Justin's scheduled opponent, Pablo Marques, stepped in, so Nichole gave him a spanking and powerbomb. Nichole and Jason acted affectionate toward each other. Styles said, "Jason's new girlfriend is more man than he is." Credible challenged anyone to take Pablo's place and get their ass kicked...

They cut to Buh Buh Ray attacking Spike Dudley while D-Von Dudley attacked New Jack in the ring. Big Dick Dudley helped the Dudleys beat up Spike and New Jack. John Kronus made the save with a heavily taped fist... The on-screen graphic read: "The inmates have overtaken the asylum." The ECW opening montage aired... Back in the ring Lance Wright stood with his bodyguard Brakus...

(1) Brakus pinned Paul Diamond with a full nelson in a matter of seconds. Brakus wore a shirt that read, "Property of the WWF." Jason and Brakus draped a "WWF" banner over the fallen Diamond. Diamond has been a consistent house show wrestler, but he gets absolutely no push on television. Taz then walked to the ring with a tattered black towel over his head. Heel ref Jeff Jones slapped Taz for not returning to the back. When Jones went for a punch, Taz ducked and gave Jones the T-Bone Tazplex. That left Taz against Brakus, but Sabu attacked Taz from behind.

Wright and Brakus retreated to the back as Rob Van Dam joined Sabu in attacking Taz. A shirtless Sandman ran to the ring with the cane to make the save. Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon, though, stopped Sandman seconds later. Tommy Dreamer ran to the ring to make the save, popping the crowd. Al Snow joined Sandman and Dreamer and held Head in the air as the crowd popped.

It established Snow as being in the camp of Dreamer and Sandman. Fans chanted, "Head, Head" as Prodigy played over the house system. He celebrated in the crowd. Styles couldn't get over the fact that Dreamer, Sandman, Snow, and Taz were all in the ring together. Styles said the foursome could be called "Team Extreme." Dreamer vowed to get revenge on the heels later that night. Taz said he doesn't want to be on anyone's team and made fun of Snow's Head. Taz said he may or may not show up...

Don Lapre, I mean Joey Styles, plugged the TV main event, then highlights aired from the weekend event in Indianapolis, Ind. at the Tyndall Armory. New Jack, from the upper deck, dove off onto Big Dick Dudley who was lying on a table. Insane...

Styles plugged the Living Dangerously PPV on Mar. 1 and announced that Time-Warner cable had agreed to carry the event. Styles encouraged viewers to deluge the last few cable holdouts with phone calls, letters, and e-mails. He credited the fans for helping them with the revolution that is ECW...

(2) Sandman & Al Snow & Tommy Dreamer & Taz beat Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon & Sabu & Rob Van Dam. Styles dubbed the heels as the "Extreme Infiltrators" in contrast to "Team Extreme." At first Taz didn't come out, but after Alfonso called Taz a chicken and a loser, Taz's music began to play and he eventually came out. In the end, Sabu went for a moonsault but Taz moved and applied the Tazmission for the apparent win. Taz let up on the hold when Brakus and the FBI among others charged the ring. A huge pullapart brawl took place. Furnas and Lafon set Beulah up for a suplex, but Snow made the save with Head. Snow then schoolboyed Furnas for the pinfall. Snow sat at ringside clutching his head afterward...

Styles again plugged the Mar. 1 pay-per-view... A bizarrely formatted, but effective and thoroughly entertaining ECW program...
