In Brief: Mattel has produced nearly 400 different Elite-style WWE figures.

In March 2013, John Cena had at least 83 action figures from Mattel’s WWE toy line. More than two years later, it’s safe to say he’s passed the 100-figure mark.

Trying to count every Mattel WWE figure made over the last five-and-a-half years would be a daunting - if not nearly impossible - task. While there are some online databases available, there are hundreds upon hundreds of basic figures, tag team two-packs, exclusives, Elite figures, and more, so identifying every single figure would be a real challenge.

Keeping up with Mattel’s Elite figures is somewhat easier.

Elite-style figures are the more expensive toys that are more aimed at collectors than kids. These figures have more points of articulation and a greater level of detail, and typically come with accessories such as T-shirts and title belts. Most Elite-style figures have a suggested retail price of $18-25.

Since launching the WWE line in January of 2010, Mattel has produced 38 series of Elite figures, plus dozens of exclusives, two-packs, best-of series, Defining Moments, Entrance Greats, and other figures. As of July 2015, Mattel has released nearly 400 WWE Elite-style figures (389 by my count).

Wrestling fans probably won’t be shocked to find out that Cena has more Elite-style figures (18) than any other wrestler. In fact, the rest of top 10 is pretty much what you’d expect: The Undertaker (15), Rey Mysterio (13), C.M. Punk (12), Triple H (12), Kane (10), Randy Orton (10), The Rock (10), Daniel Bryan (8), and Shawn Michaels (8).

Most of those wrestlers debuted in early Elite waves in 2010, so it makes sense that they would have more Elite-style figures. Punk, Rey and Undertaker all debuted in the first series, followed by Orton and Triple H in the second series and Cena and Michaels in the third series. The somewhat surprising wrestler on that list is Bryan, who didn’t have an Elite figure until Series 12. His popularity exploded in 2013, and Mattel quickly capitalized on it by releasing several different figures.

Of the 389 Elite-style figures produced by Mattel, 305 are of wrestlers who have more than one figure. The remaining 84 are one-offs, or wrestlers with only one Elite-style toy. Mattel has only made Elite figures of six women for a total of seven figures: Trish Stratus, Miss Elizabeth, AJ Lee, Kelly Kelly, Paige and Stephanie McMahon. Trish is the only woman two have more than one figure (two).

If you’re interested in keeping up with Mattel’s figures, be sure to check out 3B’s Toy Hive (3bstoyhive.com). The site does a phenomenal job of cataloguing, photographing, and reviewing WWE and other toys and collectibles.
