In Brief: Collectors were anticipating the first cards of new stars in 2014 Topps WWE. But the hottest cards belong to one wrestler who already has appeared in multiple sets.

Card Show Tuesday #17: A.J. Lee 2014 Topps WWE Cards

Ever since Topps unveiled preliminary images of its first WWE set of 2014 last fall, collectors were buzzing over the autographs of new WWE stars. After all, a lot of collectors have been waiting for the first cards of Adrian Neville and Paige, and the first certified autographs of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Eric Rowan.

But while all of those cards have been hot during the first two weeks of the product’s release, one wrestler’s cards are selling higher than any other.

A.J. Lee has been arguably the hottest WWE star with collectors since 2012, when she became the “crazy chick” at the center of the Daniel Bryan and C.M. Punk feud. Since then Topps has made sure to include several special cards of AJ in each of its sets. Her autographs, parallels and memorabilia cards have consistently outsold those of every other wrestler in 2014 Topps WWE.

The single highest selling card from 2014 Topps WWE on eBay thus far has been a Red Border Autograph of A.J. Lee. The card is serial numbered 1/1, and sold for a whopping $1,250. A Gold Border Autograph, serial numbered to 10, was listed for $500 or best offer and sold, but the sale price was not made public. Basic autographs have sold in the $50-75 range, with silver autographs going for $80-120.

A.J.’s Divas Title Commemorative Championship Plate card, which features three metal plates inserted into the card, appears to be a short print in that set. The few copies that have shown up on eBay have sold in the $100-170 range.

Authentic Diva Kiss Cards – which feature a lip print from various WWE Divas – have been hot ever since Fleer introduced them in 2002. A.J.’s has been the most popular of the 2014 class, with most copies selling in the $150-200 range.

Even A.J.’s basic parallel cards – which don’t include an autograph, lip print, memorabilia, or any other special features – have been selling unusually high. Two Gold Border parallels, serial numbered to 10 copies, sold for around $200 each. A Silver Border parallel, inserted one per hobby box but not serial numbered, sold for $14.99. A 1/1 Blank Back card is up for sale now, and will likely fetch more than $100.

A.J.’s TV presence hasn’t been the same since WWE made her the Raw general manager in 2012, but her cards are hotter than ever.
