C.M. Punk might claim he’s not on the cover of programs or on collector’s cups, but the truth is that there’s no shortage of his collectibles out there.
Ever since entering WWE in 2006, Punk has been a staple of just about every action figure series and trading card set. As a darling of hardcore wrestling fans, Punk has always been popular with collectors. But his show-stealing promo that closed the June 27 edition of Raw sparked a new level of interest in his items.
The “Straight Edge Superstar” first appeared in WWE trading card sets in 2007, when Topps included his autograph in its WWE Heritage III set. As more and more Punk autographs hit the market, interest in that particular card softened, and its value settled in the $10-15 range. However, immediately after Raw went off the air, interest in that card spiked, and it began selling in the $20-$25 range.
Punk has several autographed cards, the most popular of which can be found in the 2010 Topps WWE Platinum set. His autographed memorabilia card – which also includes a swatch of a Punk-worn shirt – is serial numbered to 275, with parallel versions numbered to 25, 50, and 99.
Over the last couple weeks, the regular version of this card had been selling for about $20-22. After Monday night, many sellers upped their prices; most were asking $35-40, with low-numbered parallels and cards featuring a multi-color piece of the shirt commanding a premium.
In the 2010 Topps WWE product, Punk’s signature was paired with those of former Straight Edge Society disciples Serena and Luke Gallows on a few different cards. These cards aren’t nearly as popular as cards only featuring Punk’s autograph, due in large part to neither wrestler being associated with Punk or WWE anymore. In fact, one Punk-Serena double autograph serial numbered to just 99 copies sold for a mere $8.30 on June 15.
If you’re looking for a cheaper Punk card, his 2010 Topps WWE Platinum relic card is a steal. It features a piece of Punk’s shirt, and can be found for around $5. There are also serial numbered parallels, but most of those can be found for under $10.
If you’re looking for a C.M. Punk action figure to add to your collection or just sit on your desk, there are plenty of choices. Punk had a multitude of Jakks figures produced from 2007-2009; most of these are very similar to one another, featuring Punk in different colored tights. There are also some that have him in one of his trademark t-shirts.
When Mattel became WWE's official toy license partner in 2010, that company picked up right where Jakks left off. Punk was one of the first figures produced, and has been included in a variety of different series. However, Mattel has been a little more innovative than Jakks in the way it presents Punk.
One of the WWE Elite figures has Punk in a Straight Edge Society t-shirt, complete with a toy razor in his hand. And ringsidecollectibles.com recently released an exclusive Punk figure that comes complete with removable Straight Edge Society mask and sling for his arm, depicting him as he looked during his 2010 feuds with Rey Mysterio and the Big Show.
There are also many custom figures being offered for sale, some of which are extremely detailed and well made. One customizer recently created a figure of Punk in his Randy Savage tribute attire, and included every single tattoo down to the smallest detail. His hard work paid off, as it fetched $132.50 on auction.
Walmart slashes prices on exclusive figures
If you’re looking for a cheap figure of C.M. Punk or another WWE Superstar, check the clearance aisle of your nearest Wal-Mart.
Earlier this year, the retail giant released an exclusive WrestleMania Heritage line of figures that captured wrestlers just as they looked during key WrestleMania moments, and included a mini-poster of that wrestler. Included in this series were Punk, John Cena, Kane, Triple H, Randy Orton, and Melina.
These figures initially were sold for $10, but after large quantities sat on the shelves for several months, Walmart began selling them at a reduced cost – in some cases, as low as $2 each.
Note that there are two versions of these figures: a basic WrestleMania Heritage series that is sold across all retail stores, and the Walmart exclusive version, which contains a mini-poster. In many cases, the store is still charging full price for the basic version, but clearancing out the Walmart exclusive version with the mini-poster at heavily discounted prices. Before taking your purchase to the register, make sure you’ve got the right one in your hand.
