SUPERSTARS HITS

Swagger vs. MVP: If it weren't for Superstars, we would not be able to see Raw wrestlers in matches like this. Jack Swagger and Montel Vontavious Porter were given about 12 minutes for this match which is at least twice as long as any match from Raw this week. They delivered well. Jerry Lawler talked about how Swagger brings out the best in MVP in terms of MVP wanting revenge for all the nasty things Swagger has said about him over the past few months. In reality, they do work well together. It was interesting to see MVP still in control of the match after the commercial break, as opposed to the usual formula with the heel in control. Breaking a formula now and again can be a very good thing. The match had good wrestling action throughout with a very strong final few minutes of counters and nearfalls. It was a good match.

SUPERSTARS MISSES

Swagger's Lisp: This is an example of WWE's backwards booking. Jack Swagger is a good heel with the potential to be great. He can wrestle and has the charisma and personality to get under people's skin. I am tired of hearing his opponents make fun of his lisp. We heard it a lot from Christian on ECW and now from MVP on Raw. I hate to sound like an after school special but making fun of someone with a speech impediment is what a heel should do, not a babyface. Swagger gave a good promo before his match, but it turned bad at the end as he had to justify they way he talks.

No ECW: ECW's ratings have been down (not even counting this week's all time low which hadn't happened yet when this was taped), but WWE isn't going to get more viewers by ignoring it. There is talent on the ECW roster, but they have to showcase it when fans of the other brands are watching to get them interested in tuning in on Tuesday night. Is ECW so devoid of stars that in order to have Superstars have bigger names, WWE had to feature Jimmy Wang Yang and Slam Master J? Yeah, that's going to work. Their match against Hart Dynasty was good, but too short to amount to much, but I don't understand the rationale for not featuring an ECW match this week.
