Bound For Glory, touted as TNA's big PPV of the year, is coming up quickly. And TNA is trying its best to get us interested in the PPV with Impact. What did they do this week? Unfortunately, not much...
IMPACT MISSES
THE WHOLE FLIPPING SHOW: From the moment that this week's episode of Impact got underway, the thing screeched to a halt and went absolutely nowhere fast. Let's break down the segments and see just what happened.
We opened with this mess of an angle between Abyss and Mick Foley. This whole thing is being based on the damage of a caricature that Foley has labeled his "most prized possession". Thanks a lot Mick for valuing things like your various title belts, your books, even your family more than this stupid picture. And Abyss playing the part of the confused little child is just making his character look weaker and weaker each week. I've said it before, the biggest flaw with this angle is that the roles have been reversed -- Abyss could have been a monster heel like he has been in the past, while Foley could have been so over as the white meat babyface. It would have built up both characters and given us a better match to look forward to at BFG. Later in the show, Abyss was chasing Foley in the halls, and TNA would even cut away from matches in the ring to show that crap. Focus on one thing at a time, TNA.
Now we've got a five-man ladder match involving one singles guy going up against two established tag teams. Sure, Amazing Red looked good with some of the moves he hit. But there is absolutely no reason that a five-man ladder match should last only four minutes long. And I'm sorry, but there was absolutely no need for the replay of the chunk-a-canrana that Red hit on Creed. To be honest, I really think this was a planned spot and that makes it even more disgusting to look at. Do we ever want to see a wrestler puke on TV?
Dr. Stevie taking on Kevin Nash. Yawn. Fast forward please. Nash hardly ever works a match anymore, and Dr. Stevie was absolutely no threat to him.
MEM and World Elite are now starting to turn against each other. Has anyone informed Eric Young lately that none of his stable even have a TNA title right now? Nor are any of them even being considered main event players? World Elite makes for a good mid-card heel faction, but there's no one out there who believes that WE is ever going to take the place, or for that matter even be considered anywhere near the same league, of MEM.
Tracy Brooks and Christy Hemme have a battle of the Playboy Bunnies. Now, I'll admit freely that once you've seen one woman naked, you want to see all of them naked. But the commentary during this match was worse than Jerry Lawler constantly shouting "Puppies!" during any woman's match.
Sting and A.J. Styles have a sit-down interview with Mike Tenay. Tenay usually does a pretty good job with these things, but Sting showed absolutely no fire or passion during the interview, and Styles looked like a lost little child wondering what his big brother was going to do next. Instead of Styles apologizing to Sting and wondering why he was passed the torch, why not have Styles come out guns blazing and telling Sting with grim and vigor that if Sting's not at the top of his game, then he'll lose. Have your champion show some cajones once in a while people.
ODB and Awesome Kong are in a title match. With absolutely no hype whatsoever given to it. Another title match just thrown away on free TV which lasted all of about two minutes. Just when it seemed that TNA was paying more attention to its Knockouts division, a title match between the champion and a woman who had to be considered a serious contender to the belt was over in two minutes. No comment, none necessary.
Kurt Angle faces Hernandez in singles competition. Now, you would think a match like this would be a main event any week with the up-and-coming Hernandez needing a big win against Kurt Angle to get back in the World Title hunt. This could have been huge, but again, it's just thrown out there like nothing. And then the two only get four minites of ring action. Folks, that's just inexcusable and lazy booking.
The Beautiful People picked up a new member in Lacey Von Erich. I'm still steaming over the poor treatment that TNA has given to Angelina Love, so I could care less about this new member. And Von Erich looked stiff in the ring. She should be thankful that Sarita sold the Von Erich Claw like a pro, because otherwise, there was nothing to this.
Matt Morgan vs. Eric Young winds up having Kurt Angle jump Morgan from behind, and what does it lead to? A BRAWL! Yes, another brawl that was out of control. Week after week TNA has been going back to the brawl, and to be honest, it has gotten boring now. Stop repeating yourselves, TNA. We've seen this already, we're tired of it, move along people.
Our main event is a six-man match with Bobby Lashley and Team 3D going against The British Invasion and Rhino. Last I checked, five out of six of these guys were pretty much solid in the mid-card, not the main event. And the sixth guy (Lashley) has been so stiff in the ring with absolutely no action in the ring to match the hype TNA has given him. It also really annoys me when a recognizable wrestling move such as a Dragon Sleeper is called something like "some sort of reverse headlock". We are watching wrestling here, so let's give some legitimacy to the actual wrestling moves. At the end, Samoa Joe attacks Bobby Lashley for absolutely no reason given whatsoever. I don't think Lashley has even mentioned Joe's name once, so what's up with this? Who knows, again, its just thrown out there for no reason.
This repeated bad booking from TNA is really getting annoying to watch. Flush the whole thing please, it belongs in the sewers like the load of garbage that it was.
