SUPERSTARS HITS

Shad vs. Kidd: I really don't want to see Cryme Tyme continuing to feud with the Hart Dynasty. However, this singles match between Shad Gaspard and Tyson Kidd was quite good. It wasn't great and a bit formulaic as the smaller wrestler worked on the larger wrestler's leg. But, they executed that formula very well. It is always fun to watch Kidd apply a submission hold and yell "ask him!" at the referee. His sharpshooter-like move on the ring post was very cool looking. He also had a chance to show off his great athleticism. JTG was fun to watch at ringside cheering on his partner. It was a good match.

Shaemus' 'Chin Lock': Shaemus vs. Tyson Reks was a decent match. It wasn't good enough to get a Hit, but not bad either. But, I wanted to point out one particular move during the match. Shaemus applied a twist version of a standard chin lock, while controlling one of Reks' arms with his leg, and holding the other with his arms while wrenching the neck. The reason I'm bringing this up is that I have complained numerous times over the years about so called rest holds that look like the wrestlers are just resting and not actually trying to sell the match. How many wrestlers in this same situation would simply put their arms around their opponent's neck, possibly with a knee in the back, and called it a submission hold, despite the fact that it doesn't look like it actually would hurt anyone? Awhile back, when talking about the submission possibilities for Breaking Point, I talked about how wrestlers need to do these types of moves that legitimately look like they hurt their opponents, or at least are visually interesting to look at. I would say that this move by Shaemus falls into the second category (although it looked more painful than many of these types of holds) as it just looked cool. It is a little simple thing that more wrestlers need to do more often.

Miz vs. Kingston: This was a good 11 minute non-title match between The Miz and Kofi Kingston. It was nice to see Kingston in a singles match. He will be in another multi-opponent match at the PPV, this time a triple threat match. The announcers even talked about how many of those types of matches Kingston has had in defending the US Title. But, that is a conversation for another time. The match got off to a nice start. Then, Miz did a very good job of focusing on Kingston's leg. The match told the story of Miz trying to ground the high flyer while Kingston tried to battle back. The match was well booked in that manner and in how Kingston kept teasing come backs to get the crowd excited, only to have Miz cut the come back off. The Trouble in Paradise finish was great as it came out of nowhere. Jack Swagger's attack on both guys afterwards was well done too.

SUPERSTARS MISSES

None: Last week, my only complaint about Superstars was how unbalanced the show was with too much Smackdown content. This week, they had a better balance. It was good to see the show back to the three match format, with two two-segment matches. All the matches were solid to good. The Ask the Divas segment was fine. There really wasn't anything to complain about.
