IMPACT HITS

Hyping Next Week: This was an abysmal episode of Impact. The only thing TNA did right was hype next week's special live first ever HD Impact from Las Vegas. They announced several matches for the show, plus Booker T promised to finally reveal the contents of his mystery brief case (and I know everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for that reveal), plus they announced that instead of leaving the company after about three weeks, Mick Foley will instead be on to make a major, industry shaking announcement. They also had a video package on going high def. Will the show actually live up to the hype? I doubt it. But, it was good to see them trying to get fans to tune in next week.

IMPACT MISSES

Foley's Farewell: Let me get this straight. Jeff Jarrett signed Mick Foley to appear at one event without a role in mind, then called Foley the biggest acquisition in company history. O.k. Jarrett had signed Foley and announced that signing before he had agreed to face Kurt Angle at Bound for Glory. That means he signed him for one event only without knowing what Foley was going to do at that event. And then Foley said good bye to the fans and acted like he had been there forever. He looked like a total tool giving his farewell address after three weeks in the company. I'm glad Foley doesn't have to put up with Vince McMahon yelling in his ear during Smackdown tapings, but acting like his farewell was some type of monumental good bye to wrestling really tarnishes his image and legacy as far as I'm concerned. It also makes Jarrett look like an idiot for signing him in the first place, for one event without a purpose in mind. What if Jarrett had refused to wrestle Angle like he did at first? What would Foley's role have been then? This is ridiculous.

Nash's Excuse: So, Kevin Nash has been upset for the last 10 months about what Samoa Joe said about Scott Hall who no showed a PPV, leaving Joe in a bad place. He then launched a 10 month long plan to get revenge on Joe to cost him the World Title. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. People love to blame Vince Russo for stupid booking decisions, but this made me think Eric "who will join the nWo next?" Bischoff was running the show. None of what Nash said made any sense. Bringing up Hall in the first place is stupid at this point. Going to the Nash 4-Life line was lame. It was all bad.

Roxxi's Interview: TNA has worked hard lately building up Roxxi as a legit wrestler. They spent several weeks on her with their Rough Cut segments and had her in a Knockouts Title match at their biggest PPV of the year. After all of the build, Roxxi got her first interview (is that really true?), and what did she do? She cursed several times (which was actually a recurring theme throughout Impact. I can't remember that much cursing on a wrestling show since Steve Austin retired), and then she said it doesn't matter if you win or lose your matches. Really? Then why should I care? Why am I going to tune in each week and pay once a month to see matches if it doesn't matter if you win or lose? That was a terribly written line. It was a poorly written interview. And, Roxxi didn't deliver it very well. At least I don't have to care if she wins any of her matches since she doesn't.

Beautiful People: It is sad to see how far down the Beautiful People have fallen the last few months. Ever since they started teaming with Kip James (and I'm not blaming him entirely), their act hasn't been nearly as good as it once was. They were so good for a long time, but not any more. This week they were picking on Christy Hemme for walking in a hallway. The writers don't seem to be able to come up with anything for anyone. This is as lame as all the feuds in WWE that have started because someone spilled coffee on someone else.

Abyss Follow Up: I was fully expecting this to be a Hit for most of Impact. TNA did a good job of following up on Abyss going through a flaming table at the PPV until the end. They talked about it early on, and gave a medical update on his condition, saying that he was unable to be on Impact this week. Matt Morgan was interviewed about it, and he did a solid job of selling Abyss' injuries and talking about how he blamed himself for what happened. They showed more footage of the incident. At that point, I was thinking about how well TNA was doing following up on the big dangerous spot. Then, they announced that Abyss would be teaming with Morgan in another Monsters Ball matches next week. That confused me. I didn't quite understand that one. Then I was even more confused when Abyss showed up in the Impact zone, totally destroying all the good work that was done selling the injury and the high spot during the rest of the broadcast. He should be out of action for at least a few weeks after that.

Too Many Videos: There were just way too many video packages on Impact this week, making the show have its customary frenetic feel (which hasn't been as bad lately as it once was, until this week). The videos were fine individually, and some of them served a good purpose, but when you put them all together, they only served to over crowd the show. It started with the video of Bound For Glory Highlights. They then showed a video also from the PPV, this one focusing on Sting vs. Joe. They showed the Abyss video mentioned above. Then, there was a very long video hyping the HD that is coming to TNA next week. It was just too much.
