CMLL “LUCHA AZTECA” TV REPORT
SEPTEMBER 19, 2015
AIRED ON TV AZTECA
REPORT BY JOSE MARRERO (@JMarrRumbling)

-CMLL Open.

-The show opens with Miguel Linares and Leobardo Magadan running down the matches for today’s show, which are from the September 4 Arena Mexico show. Included are Mistico II, Valiente, and Volador Jr. (Sky Team) taking on Barbaor Cavernario, Mr. Nieblas, and Negro Casas (Peste Negra). Also, the main event is Atlantis & L.A. Park vs. La Sombra & Dr. Wagner, Jr.

1- (Team Captain) MISTICO II & VALIENTE & VOLADOR, JR. (w/Ke Monito) vs. (Team Captain) BARBARO CAVERNARIO & MR. NIEBLA & NEGRO CASAS (w/Zacarias)

FIRST FALL: The crowd seemed very into both teams with loud chants as Cavenario and Valiente opened it up with some mat wrestling. Of course this being a lucha match wasn’t going to last long as the remaining combatants rushed in and it just became a free for all.

There was a spot in this fall that had all the rudos triple-teaming Volador, Jr. and then instead of pinning Volador, Jr., they just posed for the crowd, which allowed him to roll out of the ring and bring Mistico II into the match. It's strange psychology when the goal should always be to win the match. The finish came a few minutes into the fall as Cavernario hit a boost dropkick on Volador, Jr. to pin him, and ten seconds later Niebla hit Valiente with a top rope splash to win the fall for his team.

WINNERS OF THE FIRST FALL: La Peste Negra.

-Before the next fall begins, La Peste Negra beat up the technicos culminating with Mr. Niebla hitting the mini mascot of Team Sky Ke Monito with a leg drop, and the mascot of La Peste Negra Zacarias splashing Volador, Jr. from the top rope. They showed highlights of the fall and the packed crowd, then cut to commercial.

[Commercial Break]

SECOND FALL: La Peste Negra ran wild to begin this fall, as they batteredTeam Sky all over the arena. Valiente made his own comeback against all three rudos, which led to Volador and Mistico II hitting planchas to the outside on Negro Casas and Cavernario. Team Sky’s momentum was quickly cut off as Niebla hit Valiente with a clothesline and went into my favorite spot of a Mr. Niebla match, the Niebla Dance. However, while he was showboating to the crowd, Valiente recovered and came back with a Valiente Buster on Niebla and pinned the captain of Peste Negra to even things up.

WINNERS OF THE SECOND FALL: Team Sky to even the match 1-1.

-The Sky Team celebrated leading into highlights of the second fall.

THIRD FALL: Negro Casas and Valiente started the fall with a couple of quick spots. A quick note on Casas. With all the talk about Sting being 56-years-old, what about 55-year-old Negro Casas, who has been pretty much working a full schedule for 36 years? He wasn’t showcased much in this match but this guy is amazing and should be on the list of all-time greats.

The match broke down again leading to Team Sky hitting La Peste Negra with dives on the outside. Casas hit Code Red on Volador, Jr., which was broken up by Mistico II. Valiente hit a powerbomb on Casas for a nearfall that was broken up by Cavernario, who got a nearfall of his own by splashing Valiente until Mistico II broke it up.

Mistico II hit the crowd-pleasing huracanrana from the top rope onto Caveranario, who was crotched on the middle rope, for a nearfall. The entertainment value picked up when Mr. Nieta just slipped off the apron leaving the ring to the floor. Valiente, like a true pro, immediately hit a dive to the outside to cover up the slip. The finish came shortly afterward as Mistico II pinned Negro Casas with La Majistral cradle and Volador, Jr. hit a top-rope huracanrana on Cavernario to win the match for Team Sky.

WINNERS OF THE MATCH: Team Sky 2-1. I have to say I was entertained by everyone in this match and thought this was a great open to this week’s show.

-CMLL aired highlights of the whole match and showed a few crowd shots.
[Commercial Break]

2 - DR. WAGNER, JR. & LA SOMBRA VS. ATLANTIS & LA PARK

FIRST FALL: For a technicos vs. technicos match, this match definitely had a lot of heat as it was just a wild affair that the crowd was heavily into. It’s amazing how you can have three legends near 50-years-old (Park isn’t quite there yet) and have the quality of match seen here.

All four men instantly brawled, with Sombra and Wagner having the upper hand. Wagner nearly tore Park’s mask off, then Sombra got his belt and whipped Park. Wagner and Sombra continued to dominate until finishing off Park with a double knee smash in the corner while Wagner used an octopus submission on Park.

WINNERS OF THE FIRST FALL: DR. Wagner & La Sombra.

-Highlights of the first fall were shown, then a shot is shown of a newlywed couple in lucha masks watching the show. They cut to commercial, but not before a look at Sombra hitting Atlantis with a running dropkick as Atlantis was tied up in the tree of woe.

[Commercial Break]

SECOND FALL: The brawl continued with Park and Wagner in the ring while Volador, Jr. worked over Atlantis on the ramp. Park and Atlantis were just getting destroyed in this fall. A miscommunication between Wagner and Sombra led to Wagner hitting Sombra and knocking him out of the ring, which led to a dive from Park. Sombra was counted out. Meanwhile, in the ring, Atlantis put Wagner in the Atlantida and this match is now even.

WINNERS OF THE SECOND FALL: Park & Atlantis to even the match 1-1.

-Atlantis and Sombra fought on the outside with Atlantis hit Sombra with a suplex on the floor. They showed highlights of the second fall going to commercial.

[Commercial Break]

THIRD FALL; Atlantis and Sombra fought in the seats, while Wagner and Park went at it in the ring. Sombra and Atlantis then exchanged a bunch of nearfalls culminating with Sombra hitting a somersault plancha on the outside. Wagner and Park once again squared off with neither man really maintaining an advantage for long. They took it to the outside, where Wagner hit his trademark cannonball dive from the ramp to the fallen Parka on the floor.

Atlantis and Sombra returned to the ring, which led to the ending. Atlantis tried to hit the Atlantida on Sombra, who countered with a roll-up for a nearfall. Sombra went to argue with the referee when Atlantis tried to roll him up in the same cradle. It looked like a botch with the referee counting Sombra in the ropes.

Afterward, Sombra refused to leave the ring. In the confusion, Wagner unmasked Atlantis and sent an attacking Park into the referee. He then pulled Park's mask off, too, and somehow Park still had the wherewithal to cradle Wagner for the pin and the win.

WINNERS OF THE MATCH: Park & Atlantis 2-1. I was really fine with this match as it was obvious by the finishes they went out of their way to protect La Sombra by not having him lose clean. Even at the end, Sombra and Wagner still came off like winners as they had unmasked the other team and stood tall.

-Just a quick note as there was no acknowledgment of this being Park or Wagner’s final show. Although it wasn’t shown on this episode, after this match Park went on an obscenity-laced tirade that cause CMLL to cut ties with him, leading Wagner to also quit CMLL. A shame, as them being back with the company brought new life to the promotion.

-Highlights of the show were shown and they signed off until next week.
