Lucha Underground Report
February 4, 2015
Taped in Los Angeles, Calif.
Episode #13 on El Rey Network
Report by Joel Dehnel, PWTorch contributor

Announcers: Matt Striker and Vampiro.

Lucha Underground opened with a video package recalling the events of the past weeks including Johnny Mundo attacking Dario, the mysterious woman and Prince Puma vs. Cage.

Opening credits rolled which brought us to The Temple to begin the show.

Announcers: Striker welcomed the audience to the show. Vampiro recapped last week's show.

In-ring: Santos introduced Son of Havoc already in the ring with Ivelisse. Ivelisse told everyone to shut up because she has something she needs to get off her chest. She said she's sick of reading tweets that say Son of Havoc sucks. She said she was the baddest b**** in the building. Angélico was introduced as Havoc's opponent tonight.

1 -- SON OF HAVOC (w/Ivelisse) vs. ANGÉLICO

Both men locked up to start the contest. They rolled around with counters until Angélico landed a drop kick. He then hit a flying knee in the corner. Havoc hit a face plant for a two count. Havoc chopped Angélico in the corner followed by a standing moonsault. But, Angélico countered with a soccer kick, then fell into an atomic drop from Havoc. Ivelisse got involved, then Havoc fell to the outside. Angélico hit a Senton bomb and landed on his feet. Havoc hit a backbreaker in the ring for a two count. Havoc threw Angélico off the top rope, then he went for a 450 splash, but landed on his feet. Havoc hit a huracanrana, then teased a kiss to Ivelisse, but Angélico launched Havoc into Ivelisse then rolled him up.

WINNER: Angélico at 6:32.

Post-match: Ivelisse pushed Havoc and ran away while Havoc cussed out the crowd.

Backstage: Dario welcomed back a mysterious figure and said it was time they put things in the past. The wrestler was revealed as Johnny Mundo. Mundo said Dario was right and he is ready for some action. Dario told him that he would be taking on Cage tonight. Mundo responded by saying that Dario should replace the ripped title belt.

[Break]

In-ring: Santos introduced Famous B. followed by Pentagon, Jr. for the next match. Striker threw to a video package highlighting Pentagon, Jr.

2 -- FAMOUS B vs. PENTAGON, JR.

Pentagon knocked down B right away. He pushed him into the corner and gave him a hard chop. B went for an armdrag, but fell into a superkick. Pentagon hit a package piledriver. Pentagon locked in a Kimora-like armbar for the submission victory.

Post-match: Pentagon continued the pressure on the arm, then dropped down in what was supposed to break B's arm. B sold the injury while referees came down to aid him. Pentagon grabbed the mic and said "I pledge my loyalty to you, master. I am ready. Because I am Pentagon, Jr. Zero fear!" The fans continued to cheer for Pentagon, though.

WINNER: Pentagon, Jr. via submission at 1:53.

[Break]

Backstage: Dario looked at his key and talked to an unknown figure who was heavily breathing. He said he is aware of what the mysterious woman wants and he must protect it.

In-ring: Santos introduced Drago already in the ring. His opponent tonight is AeroStar.

3 -- DRAGO vs. AEROSTAR

Drago trapped Star's arm, but Star broke free and hit a huracanrana. Star hit a kick followed by a springboard double stomp. Drago hit a codebreaker, but Star kicked Drago to the outside followed by a springboard cross-body.

Drago lifted up Star and slammed his face to the mat. Drago kicked Star, then Star rolled to the outside. Drago hit a corkscrew to the outside. Star tried to roll up Drago, but Drago flipped over Star into a DDT for the win.

WINNER: Drago at 4:14.

[Break]

Backstage: Fenix was training on a punching bag until he was interrupted by Catrina. She asked Fenix about his tattoo and if it protects him from nightmares. She asked what could scare a man that cannot die. She then said she had a message for him. Catrina kissed Fenix and told him to keep it between them because if Mil Mascaras found out, he would bury them both alive.

In-ring: Santos announced the main event of the evening. First out was Johnny Mundo. Followed by Cage. Cage was wearing the ripped title belt around his neck.

4 -- CAGE vs. JOHNNY MUNDO

Cage flipped over Mundo onto his knees, but Mundo kicked down Cage and went for a pin. Mundo landed a flurry of strikes, but Cage rolled to the outside and caught Mundo. He powerbombed him into the ringpost to take control. The camera showed King Cuerno watching the match off in the distance.

Cage continued to manhandle Mundo until he went to the top and missed a moonsault. Mundo landed strikes and kicks before finally knocking over Cage. Cage picked up Mundo, but Mundo escaped and hit a Scorpion Death drop. Cage hit the sit-down Alabama Slam for a two count. Mundo countered Cage and hit another kick. Mundo went for the End of the World, but Cage rolled away. Mundo then hit a corkscrew to the outside. Cuerno made his way to the ring and tripped Mundo for the DQ.

Post-match: Cuerno beat down Mundo with a clothesline and kick. He then smashed Mundo into the ringpost. He grabbed a chair and smacked it across Mundo's leg. Dario came out and yelled hold on. He said now that Johnny and him are friends again, he is going to restart this match again.

Cage made his way back to the ring. Cage threw down Mundo and continued to hit the injured leg. Mundo went for some kicks, but failed. Cage put Mundo in a leg submission, but got to the ropes. Mundo finally got in a kick and a few body shots. Mundo hit the Moonlight Drive, then went for the End of the World, but Cage caught him. Cage hit Metallingus (F-5) for a two count. Mundo went for a sunset flip, but Cage hit a clothesline followed by a faceplant for the victory.

WINNER: Cage at 11:57.

Backstage: Dario was on the phone saying that the woman has found out and we need to hide everything. Someone came knocking on the door. Dario recognized the voice and hung up the phone. The man was revealed as Alberto El Patròn. Alberto told Dario he would say who he is, but he already knows.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This week's Lucha Underground brought back one of my favorite features in the show, which are the backstage segments. The cinematic scenes in Dario's office are one of the biggest things that separate the show from every other promotion. They are used to develop more story, intriguing mystery, and big reveals such as Alberto El Patrón. WWE hasn't been able to figure out how to effectively use the backstage scenes in a meaningful way like Lucha Underground... The main event was quality as you should expect by now but, what really stood out to me was Mundo's selling. I was harping on Puma last week for his lack of selling and I think that this week Mundo did a much better job of getting the viewer to believe that these moves are effective and really damage him... I'm very excited to see how Lucha Underground uses Alberto El Patón and when he has his debut match. For further thoughts and discussion on Lucha Underground, please check out Moonlighting w/Greg Parks this weekend, as I will be his guest. We will discuss Smackdown, NXT, and more on this episode of Lucha Underground for VIP members.

SUMMARY RESULTS: (1) Angélico rolled up Son of Havoc... (2) Drago beat AeroStar... (3) Pentagon, Jr. submitted Famous B. ... (4) Cage defeated Johnny Mundo after the match was restarted from an original DQ finish.
