Florida Championship Wrestling TV Report
November 1, 2009
Aired on the Bright House Sports Network
Report by Cody Endres, PWTorch contributor

-Footage aired from three weeks ago of Justin Angel capturing the FCW Heavyweight Title from Heath Slater. Following the opening montage, Steve Keirn, the President of FCW, made his way to the ring. Oh boy. Keirn said there has been a great history of FCW champions and he truly believes that the title is a stepping-stone to becoming a superstar. He must be forgetting Tyler Reks's reign. Keirn brought out the current champion – Justin Angel.

Keirn informed Angel he would be facing Sheamus in the main event and wished him luck. Keirn even had a surprise for Angel - a huge FCW banner poster hanging in the arena featuring Angel with the title belt around his waist. It hangs between an old Randy Orton "No Mercy" poster and an old Triple H "Summerslam" poster. Angel was very gracious and thanked FCW management for the honor. FCW General Manger Abraham Washington interrupted flanked by Rosa Mendes & Liviana. Washington said he owned Angel and that the banner was his idea. Washington took credit for everything Angel has accomplished. Sheamus ambushed Angel from behind and held up the title belt. Darn good opening segment for FCW standards.

-Announcers Dusty Rhodes & Byron Saxton recapped the happenings from the opening of the show.

1 – CURT HAWKINS vs. BRETT DIBIASE

Hawkins and DiBiase engage in a collar-and-elbow battle that spills to the floor. Back in the ring, Hawkins executes an overhead suplex for a two count. Hawkins with a snap mare and a kick to the back. DiBiase mounts a comeback with a series of punches, a dropkick, and a springboard crossbody off the second rope. DiBiase connects on a fist drop for a nearfall. Caylen Croft runs in out of nowhere and jumps on the apron to distract the referee. A "fan" (presumably Trent Beretta) runs in from the other side of the arena and distracts DiBiase. Hawkins rolls up DiBiase from behind for the cheap win.

WINNER: Curt Hawkins in 3:15. Looks like we have a new member of The Dude Busters.

-We were treated to a repeat airing of the South Beach Boys video from last week. Sexy Star Stud Stallionaires indeed.

[Commercial Break]

2 – CAYLEN CROFT (w/Trent Beretta) vs. BO ROTUNDO (w/Duke Rotundo)

The announcers talked about the controversy in the previous match. Bo slingshots Croft into the corner turnbuckle and works a headlock. Croft escapes with a back body suplex. Croft suprises Bo with a dropkick for a two count. Rhodes talked about Sheamus being greedy and wanting all the power in FCW and WWE. Croft runs off the ropes for momentum and gets caught with a powerslam from Bo. Bo hits a running bulldog for a nearfall of his own. At ringside, Duke prevents Beretta from interfering in the match. Meanwhile Bo spears Croft to pick up the win.

WINNER: Bo Rotundo in 4:24. Simple, enjoyable match.

-After the match, Curt Hawkins hits the ring and assists Croft & Beretta in attacking the Rotundo Brothers. Brett DiBiase runs out to make the save. Nice continuity in the first two matches to set up a six man tag match down the line.

[Commercial Break]

3 – TYLER REKS & GABRIEL vs. ALEX RILEY & ELI COTTONWOOD

Riley has recruited Cottonwood to take out Gabriel. Gabriel immediately goes after Riley, but Cottonwood gets in between them. Gabriel has to tag out to Reks before Riley will even enter the ring. Reks dominates the action before getting hit with an illegal kick by Cottonwood. Cottonwood tags in and tosses Reks around the ring. Gabriel finally gets involved in the match and gets his hands on Riley. Gabriel takes out Riley with his sidewinder neckbreaker, but Cottonwood breaks up the pin attempt. Amid all the confusion, Riley recovers and hits Gabriel with a sit-out uranage to get the win.

WINNERS: Alex Riley & Eli Cottonwood in 4:35. Really good show up until this point. Only a small portion of the FCW roster is actually over and the fans could really care less about Riley or Gabriel.

-Another South Beach Boys video was repeated. They debut next week. For real this time.

4 – JUSTIN ANGEL vs. SHEAMUS – FCW Heavyweight Championship

Sheamus_150_29.jpg
Sheamus mocked the banner of Angel hanging in the arena as he made his entrance. Angel entered still selling his back from Sheamus' attack earlier in the evening. Angel capitalizes early with some kicks that send Sheamus to the floor. We head to a commercial break after only 30 seconds of action.

[Commercial Break]

Angel is now working a Fujiwara armbar on Sheamus. Sheamus breaks free and dumps Angel to the outside. Sheamus rams the champion's back into the edge of the apron. Back in the ring Sheamus scores with a fall-away slam for a nearfall. Sheamus repeatedly works over Angel with a sort of variation of the chickenwing. Each time Angel breaks free, Sheamus pummels his chest with forearms. Rinse and repeat multiple times. Angel mounts a comeback with a variety of kicks and lands a downward spiral for a nearfall. Angel with a springboard moonsault for another two count. Sheamus tosses Angel over the top rope, but Angel skins the cat and pulls Sheamus to the floor instead. Angel takes out the Celtic Warrior with a twirling tope. Angel climbs to the top rope, but Sheamus crotches him. Sheamus hoists Angel up and lands The Fiery Red Hand for a close nearfall. A frustrated Sheamus attempts a pinfall twice. Angel with a surprise small package for another nearfall. Angel somersaults out of the way of a bicycle kick and takes down Sheamus with a head scissors. Angel climbs up and hits the 450 splash off the top to retain his title.

WINNER: Justin Angel in 12:45 (of what aired) to remain FCW Heavyweight Champion. Disappointing after the exciting build. Sheamus's repeated use of restholds really killed the beginning of the match. The overall use of restholds in FCW is excessive especially in four or five minute matches.

-Advertised for next week: Trent Beretta & Caylen Croft & Curt Hawkins take on The Rotundo Brothers & Brett DiBiase.
