Florida Championship Wrestling TV Report
October 11, 2009
Aired on the Bright House Sports Network
Report by Cody Endres, PWTorch contributor

-Announcers Dusty Rhodes & Byron Saxton open the show and hype up the main event featuring Heath Slater defending the FCW Heavyweight Championship against Justin Angel. Saxton also mentions that Abraham Washington will have some sort of announcement regarding the title. Rhodes wondered why Angel was getting a shot when Joe Hennig won a number one contender's match against Tyler Reks a couple of weeks ago.

1 – DYLAN KLEIN vs. BRETT DIBIASE

During Klein's entrance the screen turned to static and we went backstage with the Jigsaw-voiced cameraman again. The mystery man told Hennig he won't be getting any more title shots. Hennig got very angry and scared the mystery man out of his locker room. Saxton recapped this long feud and reminded viewers about Klein injuring DiBiase's ribs a while back. DiBiase surprises Klein early with a crucifix for a nearfall. Klein with an interesting gut-wrench backbreaker for a nearfall of his own. Klein hoists DiBiase up onto his shoulders in a DVD position, but DiBiase turns it into a pinning combination for the win.

WINNER: Brett DiBiase in 3:34. Basic, yet entertaining matchup. Klein vs. DiBiase has delivered a number of times and I was saddened to hear about Klein recently leaving FCW.

2 – FCW Tag Team Champions THE ROTUNDO BROTHERS (Bo & Duke) vs. THE DUDEBUSTERS (Trent Beretta & Caylen Croft) – Non Title Match

The Dudebusters cut a goofy pre-taped promo where they proclaimed they were back in the title hunt. Saxton said that the Dudebusters have been motivated by Beretta's mom who has been angry ever since they lost the tag titles. Rhodes talked about Beretta's mom dropping off and picking up the Dudebusters from FCW Arena. Beretta gets an early advantage by stomping Bo's face during a sunset flip attempt. The Dudebusters worked over Bo's arm for a short time. Croft accidentally works on both arms. Duke gets the hot tag and dominates Croft with some power moves. With the referee distracted the Dudebusters give Duke a double-DDT. Croft quickly makes the cover for the victory.

WINNERS: The Dudebusters in 5:30. Good match. Let's hope they never turn Beretta's mom into some sort of an onscreen character whether it be in FCW or ECW. It's much funnier to hear about it than it would be to actually see it.

[Commercial Break]

-FCW General Manger Abraham Washington came to the ring for his announcement. He announced that the main event would be a 2-out-of-3 falls match with a 30 minute time limit. He promised tonight would be a night to remember. Washington's heel persona was really dialed back in this short segment.
[Commercial Break]

-Saxton previewed next week's episode and noted that Mia (formerly Serena) Mancini would defend the Queen of FCW crown against Savannah (Angela). WWE Hall of Famer HOWARD FINKEL was brought out to be the special guest ring announcer for the main event. Finkel conducted ring introductions like it was WrestleMania. Put this man back on television.

3 – HEATH SLATER vs. JUSTIN ANGEL – 2 out of 3 Falls Match with a 30-Minute Time Limit for the FCW Heavyweight Championship

This match feels extremely special and it was basically unadvertised. Imagine what it could have been with a few weeks of build. A 30-minute timer is running in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. We begin with a slow feeling-out process before Angel starts to work over the left arm of Slater. Both men trade holds and work over one another's arms. Slater runs out of the ring and Angel follows. Slater catches Angel sliding back into the ring and executes a backslide with his feet on the ropes to win the first fall.

[Commercial Break]

Angel sticks to his gameplan of grounding Slater in the apparent hope of wearing him down. Slater manages to make it to his feet a number of times, but Angel always counters and takes him back to the mat with a side headlock. Slater finally escapes the headlock with a back body suplex. A frustrated Slater mounts Angel and punches him repeatedly. Slater chokes Angel on the ropes until the ref steps in. Angel rallies back with a spin kick and a hurancanrana for a nearfall. Angel with a springboard moonsault off the middle of the top rope for another nearfall. Angel attempts to hit a splash off the top rope, but Slater gets his knees up.

[Commercial Break]

During the break, Slater sent Angel to the floor following a running kick to the abdomen. Slater drives Angel back first into the ringpost and the apron. Slater throws him in the ring for a nearfall. Slater connects with a flapjack for another nearfall. Slater drapes Angel's body against the ringpost and yanks on an arm and a leg. Slater jumps off the second rope with a sunset flip, but Angel hooks his leg and scores a quick pin to even up the match.

Slater paces around the ring as the referee allows Angel time to make it back to his feet. Slater pounces quickly and hits a DDT for a close nearfall. Both men exchange some of their signature moves for several nearfalls. There is now only three minutes left in the match. Angel with a series of kicks for a nearfall. With two minutes left Slater tries crawling out of the ring, but Angel cuts him off. Slater goes for his Sweetness finisher, but Angel holds onto the rope. With 30 seconds left Angel climbs up top looking for his 450 splash. Slater pops up and crotches him on the top rope. Slater goes for a superplex, but Angel sends him to the mat with a punch. Angel connects with the 450 splash and wins the match with four seconds left on the clock. The fans erupt at the finish.

WINNER: Justin Angel in 29:56 (a little over 20 minutes actually aired) to win the FCW Heavyweight Title. Probably the best FCW match since Kaval has been out with an injury. The match was awesome, the commentators were spot on, and Finkel announcing a NEW champion put it over the top.
