POWELL'S WWE RAW REPORT
OCTOBER 11, 2009
ATLANTA, GA.
(Live from Atlanta, Ga.)... [Q1]... The show opened with the Gorilla Monsoon tribute which originally aired on Smackdown... Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler introduced the show as the camera panned the upper deck of the Georgia Dome... Vince McMahon came to the ring for a promo. Vince said, "On behalf of the WWF, it feels good to be here with you in Atlanta." Vince introduced Steve Austin, who came to the ring to a massive pop. Austin said he'd been on the sidelines because of "one particular asshole (uncensored) named Triple H." Austin called out Triple H, who walked out onto the rampway. Austin noted that 40,000 people were calling him an asshole (which was funny the first hundred times he said it); Triple H said he didn't give a damn. Triple H said Austin is afraid because he knows he can't beat him. Two out of the next three sentences uttered by Triple H were censored. Triple H came to ringside and teased climbing into the ring. Instead, Triple H went over to Ross, knocked his hat off, and pushed him over. Ross got up, picked up an electric fan, and hit Triple H with it. Triple H got mad and went after Ross but Austin grabbed Triple H from behind. Austin threw Triple H into the ring and and beat him up. Ross climbed into the ring and Austin held Triple H, allowing Ross to punch him. Chyna ran in and attacked Ross. Austin grabbed Chyna from behind and punched her out. Triple H grabbed the mic and challenged Austin and Ross to meet he and Chyna later in the show. Austin accepted as Ross expressed concern. A hot segment...
[Q2]... [C] (1) Billy Gunn (w/Road Dogg) beat Crash Holly (w/Hardcore Holly) at 0:48 with the Famasser. The Outlaws did their usual mic work before the match which isn't nearly as fun the second time around. After the match, Hardcore attacked Billy with the scale... Backstage, Cole interviewed Mankind and plugged the replay of his "G vs. E" appearance. Mankind said he noticed that Rock isn't being a team player. Mankind said he needed to know where Rock was coming from and that he didn't care because "I can go either way."... [C]
[Q3]... (2) Ivory fought Mae Young to a no-contest in 0:10. Ivory cut a promo before the match ripping on Young and Moolah's age. Young came to the ring wearing a crown which Lawler said belonged to King Henry V. Ivory hit Young with the women's title belt to start the match. Moolah came to the ring and beat up Ivory. Outside of Chyna and Debra, Young is the most entertaining female in the company... Ross called Rock on the phone and Rock accidentally started talking while the phone was still ringing. The conversation was broadcast over the sound system inside the building. Rock said he was in his limo on his way to the arena. He said he doesn't like Mankind (the crowd booed) and promised to turn the building upside down... [C] Backstage, Terry Taylor interviewed British Bulldog who hyped his PPV match against Rock... A pre-taped interview aired with Stephanie and Shane McMahon. Stephanie said she is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. Shane comforted her and told her everyone knew whose fault it was... Backstage, Val Venis attacked Mankind and left him lying... [C]
[Q4]... A white limo arrived at the building and dropped off Mark Henry and a woman... (3) The New Brood fought Edge & Christian to a DDQ at 4:42 in the fourth match of the "Terri Invitational." Terri didn't even bother to make an appearance for the match... A limo arrived at the arena and dropped off Rock... Backstage, X-Pac told Kane not to involve himself in his match no matter what happened... [C] Backstage, Kevin Kelly interviewed Rock who ripped on Bulldog and Mankind. Rock pretended to forget his catch phrases and instead used Ric Flair's (To be the man...), Randy Savage's (Oooh Yeah), and Hulk Hogan's (24 inch pythons) before finally remembering his own. Funny. Mankind burst into the room and asked where they stood. Before he got his answer, Vince burst into camera range and told them they had to wrestle Bulldog and Val later in the show. Rock told Mankind to win one for the "Scooper."...
[Q5]... (4) X-Pac beat Faarooq (w/Bradshaw) at 3:20. Before the match, Ross noted that Droz's condition had improved and encouraged fans to continue sending him cards and letters. Kane watched the match on a backstage monitor. After the match, Bradshaw ran in and helped Faarooq beat up X-Pac. Kane walked out onto the rampway, but stopped himself from coming to the ring (per X-Pac's request). The Acolytes figured out why he wasn't coming to the ring and continued to beat up X-Pac. Finally, Kane ran in and made the save. X-Pac got mad and chewed out Kane for not respecting his wishes... Highlights aired from earlier in the show of Triple H and Ross's confrontation. Ross headed to the back to prepare for the match... Backstage, the woman Henry arrived with counseled him on his sexual addiction and said he better be ready for "drastic overstimulation tactics."...
[Q6]... (5) The Headbangers beat Chris Jericho & Curtis Hughes at 3:24. Mosh and Thrasher came to the ring in their old gear to no reaction. In the end, Jericho got mad at Hughes, punched him, and left the ring. The Headbangers hit the Stage Dive for the win. Lame. Why do the Headbangers keep getting chances to succeed when they've never shown any ability to get themselves over? What did Jericho do to be put in matches with the Dudleys and the Headbangers? Worse yet, it looks like Jericho has a feud with Hughes in his future... Backstage, Big Show told D-Lo Brown that his (Big Show's) father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer... [C] Backstage, Rock instructed Mankind to scoop up animal crap to use in their match. A lame attempt at humor... (6) Godfather (w/20-plus 'hos) beat Mark Henry at 1:22. Backstage, Taylor interviewed Henry's therapist, Dr. Audrea Early, who said she wanted Henry to be able to concentrate on his work rather than sex. In the end, Godfather rolled up Henry for the win. After the match, Henry danced with the 'hos in the ring. A weak angle, but the dozens of strippers should help the ratings... Backstage, Kelly interviewed Triple H and Chyna. Triple H ripped on Ross and mocked his accent...
[Q7]... [C] (7) Big Show beat Big Bossman by DQ at 0:37. In the end, Bossman hit Big Show with the nightstick for the DQ. After the match, Al Snow ran in and attacked Bossman. Yawn... A shot aired of Mankind forming a large pile of dog poop on a table... A shot aired of Austin talking with Ross... [C] (8) Steve Austin & Jim Ross fought Triple H & Chyna to a no-contest in 10:00. Ross came to the ring to the Oklahoma University fight song which might have gotten a pop if the show were in Oklahoma. Triple H jumped Ross before Austin came out. Austin ran out and brawled with Triple H while Chyna choked Ross at ringside. Austin and Triple H brawled throughout the arena and to the back. In the ring, Chyna beat up Ross and hit him with the Pedigree.
[Q8]... Jeff Jarrett ran in and hit her from behind with a toaster. Miss Kitty came to the ring with a laundry hamper. Jarrett stuffed Chyna into the hamper and pushed her to the back. Austin and Triple H fought their way back into the arena. Austin and Triple H brawled on the concession stand and Austin threw Triple H into a bin filled with ice. Austin cracked a beer and told Triple H he had a friend he wanted him to meet. Austin left the area through the crowd and fought his way to ringside. Austin kicked Lawler out of his chair and stood on top of the announcers' desk. Backstage, Jarrett rolled the laundry hamper over the edge of a loading dock (for trucks) and it crashed about four feet below. The booking of the match left a lot to be desired. Ross added nothing to the match and spent the entire match getting beat up by Chyna. The point of the match/angle could've been made through an "impromptu" brawl rather than using Ross. If they were set on using Ross, he should've been tagged in late in the match for a big pop and been given a couple of punches at a worn out Triple H. As it was, Ross's appearance served no purpose... [C] A shot aired of EMT's tending to a bloody Chyna. It looks like the WWF will continue using fake blood when they can...
[Q9]... (9) Rock & Mankind fought British Bulldog & Val Venis to a no-contest at 8:04. Mankind came to the ring with a tray full of dog poop (since it was Rock's idea, it should've been monkey crap). Mankind tried to hug Rock as the match started but Rock shoved him away. All four men brawled inside the ring and at ringside. Late in the match, Mankind put on Mr. Socko and chased Val to the back which left Rock and Bulldog to brawl. Rock brought the plate of dog poop into the ring and placed it in the middle. Rock hit Bulldog with the Rock Bottom onto the dog poop. Rock set up for the People's Elbow but stopped when he realized Bulldog was covered in poop. For some unexplained reason, the match ended and Rock's music played as if he'd won the match, even though he didn't get a pin... Backstage, Triple H attacked Austin. Austin came back and knocked him into a locker room and to the ground. Austin left the room and Triple H looked up only to find a rattlesnake. Triple H screamed as the show went off the air... Is there a point to ordering the PPV now that Rock and Austin have had their revenge on the heels?... A bad show with weak booking... [JP]
