Awesome show. Two outstanding singles matches and a pretty good mixed tag match with Carlito executing a sick variation of the backstabber to cap off the night. I was surprised to see the show open with John Morrison vs. D.H. Smith instead of saving it for the main event, but it wasn't a big deal. What was a big deal was the noticeable improvement by Smith. Perhaps he was on a natural high working in front of the "hometown fans," but he put in his best WWE performance to-date. Morrison continues to prove why he's WWE's top wrestler right now. Excellent match that's worth going out of your way to see if you missed the match.
Then, Goldust and Sheamus put in a "much higher than expectations" performance. Goldust is Goldust. Sheamus is still new. Suddenly, they had a barn-burning match with Goldust showing a fire in his belly and extra spring in his step. Sheamus sold the surprise loss perfectly to show he really cared about wins and losses. Goldust incorporating a little "Dustin Rhodes" with his classic WWE gimmick might be the right combination he's been looking for the last ten years. A very good TV match.
The main event mixed tag match was good. Not much stood out other than Carlito's hair. Only thing missing from this show that would have pushed it to a near-perfect score for a "fourth tier program" would have was a title match announcement for Kofi and/or Mickie at Summerslam. Give the folks watching on WGN a little extra value for tuning in.

A score like a 9.0 can be hard to justify. However, considering that there were three good matches on Superstars this week, two of which were in the very good to great range, zero bad matches, and very little to complain about, I feel the score is justified.
The best match of the night, the best match on WWE TV so far this week, was John Morrison vs. David Hart Smith. I wrote last week that Tyson Kidd needs to break away from Smith to become a singles superstar. In doing so, I said that I was far from sold on Smith's talents. I am much more sold after this match, his best showing to date. It helped that he was in the ring with Morrison who has been so great lately. The match had plenty of great wrestling action and never dragged. It went back and forth and was very well booked and well executed.
I was disappointed on ECW that there wasn't a follow up to the Goldust vs. Shaemus situation from the previous week, so I was happy to see it continue on Superstars. These two got 12 minutes and really delivered a very good match. Goldust is more inspired in the ring than he's been in years. Shaemus continues to show his great potential. I really enjoyed this match.
While not as good as the other two, I also enjoyed the mixed tag match of Kofi Kingston & Mickie James vs. Carlito & Rosa Mendes. Mendes worries me in the ring, but her time in the match was limited and she looked fine this week. This was a nice tease to a future US Title match between Kingston and Carlito. They worked well together here. Carlito is showing the intensity that has been missing for most of his WWE career and Kingston continues to be fun to watch. I wouldn't mind seeing more between these two, especially after that sick backstabber than Carlito hit to win the match.
I could complain about the Ask the Divas segment, but it was short and as I have said in the past, I would rather see it on Superstars than on ECW. I could complain about the Raw Rebound, but at least it wasn't the same lame recap of the DX stuff they showed on ECW. We got about 30 minutes of in ring action which is great (imagine if we got 60 minutes of in ring action on Raw!).

A surprisingly good edition of Superstars, and if you would've told me the line-up beforehand, I probably would've thought the show wouldn't have risen much higher than 6.0 or 7.0 tops. But I was pleasantly surprised by the effort put forward last night, and it showed in the results.
It was no surprise David Hart Smith had his best WWE match on this show. He was in Canada, he was facing John Morrison, and he got a lot of time to show his stuff. It's not like he's been terrible and all of a sudden he's top tier; he's always come close to breaking through in his singles matches, but he actually did it here.
I've always been a fan of Goldust. I think that's been evident in my roundtables and reports. So it was nice to finally have something to cheer about as a Goldust fan, not only getting a big win over the then-undefeated Sheamus, but putting on a heck of a performance in the process. I'm surprised WWE gave them so much time, knowing how green Sheamus is and how far down the card Goldy is. The main event mixed-tag was fine, and I like Carlito's new heel look. I don't know why they chose to put Rosa with Mickie, but it wasn't the disaster it could've been. And good to put these guys in the main event of a show, even if it was just Superstars.
