Virtual time analysis
-Hogewood and Prazak kicked off the show from the ROH studio and previewed the Black-Danielson main event.
(1) Grizzly Redwood & Andy Ridge vs. The Dark City Fight Club (Kory Chavis & Jon Davis). Davis slammed Ridge to the mat during the early stages of the mat and then tagged in Chavis for a double team attack. Moments later Chavis & Davis hit a combination ace crusher on Ridge. Davis then tossed Ridge into his own corner and dared Redwood to tag in. Davis immediately took down Redwood and tossed him to the mat. Redwood ducked a charge in the corner and went to charge at Chavis, but Davis caught him with the pounce. Chavis & Davis then followed up with a double team powerbomb/neck breaker combo for the pin on Ridge. (*)
RADICAN'S ANALYSIS: Good squash.
-Durden interviewed Danielson backstage. Danielson said tonight he would see if the people behind Black were right or wrong.
-They cut back to the ring with Nigel McGuinness cutting a promo. He said after all he's done, he still doesn't have the respect of the fans. McGuinness said he prefers it that way and ran down the fans.
(2) Nigel McGuinness vs. Alex Payne. Payne took down McGuinness early, but Nigel quickly cut him off and hit the kick to the back/clothesline combination on him in the corner. McGuinness targeted Payne's shoulder and slammed it down to the mat with a hammerlock divorce court. Payne tried to fire back, but McGuinness caught him with a huge lariat and then followed up with the tower of London for the pin. (*)
RADICAN'S ANALYSIS: This was another good squash. It's interesting how they taped this with McGuinness not having the title, despite still being the champion at this set of tapings and talked about Lynn beating him for the title.
-Durden was shown backstage with Tyler Black. Black said there were a lot of people out there that said Danielson was the best wrestler alive, but there are also others that say that's not true. Black said Danielson is the best wrestler in the world. Black said tonight he would prove he has to take to hand it to the best in the world.
-Hero & Edwards cut a promo backstage with Larry Sweeney. I guess they couldn't account for everything like they did with McGuinness title switch to Lynn. The Briscoes cut a promo backstage. Mark asked Jay how he would get along with Steen. Steen came into the picture and said they all want revenge on Edwards, so they would be able to get along.
(3) Chris Hero & Eddie Edwards (w/Larry Sweeney, Sara Del Rey) vs. Kevin Steen & Jay Briscoe. Edwards and Hero jumped their opponents from behind before the bell. Steen fended off a double team attempt, which allowed Jay to run in and clothesline Hero to the outside. Prazak mentioned these two teams had met before at a recent DVD taping. Hero tried to attack Steen from behind, but Steen saw him and knocked him off the apron to the floor. Jay tagged in and continued the attack on Edwards. Steen & Jay continued to work well as a unit as they continually thwarted Hero from mounting a comeback. Jay set up for a charge at Hero, but Sweeney grabbed his boot and Hero ended up taking him out with a leaping kick. Jay spilled to the outside where Del Rey and Sweeney put the boots to him. Mark ended up running out to chase them away and the crowd was really hot for the action.
Edwards & Hero got the heat on Jay. Jay attempted to get back to his corner to tag out, but Edwards prevented him from tagging in Steen. Hero tagged in and hit a big rolling elbow for a two count. Jay ended up tossing Edwards into Hero in the corner and tagged in Steen, who ran wild. Steen hit a cannonball on Hero in the corner and followed up with a big moonsault for a nearfall. Steen went for a package piledriver, but Hero blocked it. Hero ended up catching Steen with a rolling elbow out of nowhere for a nearfall. Hero went for another rolling elbow, but Steen blocked it. Hero caught Steen with a big kick and tagged in Edwards. Hero nailed Steen with a rolling elbow to the back of the head and Edwards covered him, but Steen kicked out at the last second. Jay tripped Hero as he came off the ropes and Steen caught Edwards with a powerbomb. Steen applied the sharpshooter on Edwards, but Sweeney jumped up on the apron. Steen eventually ended up hitting a package piledriver amidst chaos on Edwards to get the pin. (**3/4)
RADICAN'S ANALYSIS: This was a good tag match. They never took the action to the next level as I expected, but otherwise this was still good for TV.
(4) Tyler Black vs. Bryan Danielson. Danielson locked in a nasty looking leg submission on Black during the early stages of the match. Black countered and grabbed a half-crab, but Danielson quickly got the ropes. Black took Danielson down with a huracanrana and covered him for a 2 count. Danielson got the upper hand and locked Black in the surfboard, which drew a pop from the crowd. Danielson then turned the hold into a nasty looking dragon sleeper, but Black managed to free himself and the crowd gave him an ovation. Danielson continued to work over Black's leg with various submissions and strikes on the mat. Black rolled up Danielson and grabbed the tights, but Danielson kicked out hand immediately went back on the attack as he lifted Black's face up and slapped him several times. Black fired up to no reaction, but Danielson managed to take him back down with a clothesline. Black ended up on the outside, so Danielson bounced off the ropes and nailed him with a big dive.
Danielson went up top, but Black caught him with a dropkick. Black fired up and nailed Danielson with a forearm in the corner and followed up with a super huracanrana for a two count. Danielson ended up on the outside after a dropkick from Black, who followed up with a big dive over the top rope and the crowd roared. The crowd chanted for both men as Danielson caught a kick attempt from Black and turned it into a submission, which was awesome. Black struggled and struggled, but eventually got the ropes. Danielson charged at Black, but got caught and ended up on the mat. Black went for a superkick, but Danielson caught it and locked in the ankle lock on the mat. Black tried to get to the ropes, but Danielson dead lifted him into a German suplex. Danielson stood over Black and slapped him across the face several times.
Danielson went for a belly to back superplex, but Black managed to turn over and landed on top of him. Both men ended up down on the mat as the crowd roared. Both men exchanged forearms, but Black got the upper hand and hit the paroxysm for a two count. Bobby Cruise announced there was one minute left. Black went for the phoenix splash, but Danielson got out of the way. Danielson caught Black with the triangle as the crowd roared. Cruise announced there was only 30 seconds left, but Black managed to dead lift Danielson and powerbomb him into the turnbuckles. Wow! Both men ended up down on the mat as the time limit expired at 20:00. (***3/4)
RADICAN'S ANALYSIS: This was an awesome match and fell just short of being in the category of some of their previous matches on DVD, but it was close. The crowd really got into the match and there were so many neat counters and exchanges down the stretch after a slow start to the match. It's well-worth seeking this match out on YouTube.
The crowd chanted for five more minutes. Danielson offered Black a handshake and Tyler accepted as ROH went off the air.
Next week: Ric Flair debuts and Strong vs. Aries is your main event.
