By Wade Keller, Torch editor

TNA IMPACT
JUNE 22, 2006
TAPED 19 IN ORLANDO, FLA.

-The show opened with clips of the Slammiversary main event with Jim Cornette saying he wants wrestlers who can draw TV ratings, draw PPV buys, and have good matches. Mike Tenay then introduced the show as pyro blasted around the Impact Zone.

-In the ring, "the new face of TNA management" stood center-ring, Jim Cornette, holding the NWA World Title over his right arm, with a clipboard in hand. Cornette said TNA has all the resources it needs, but needs some straightening - structure, order, discipline, and accountability. He said there have been too many impotent power figures and management management members on the take. He said he has been part of closed door meetings all day. "I don't want to air dirty laundry in public before I can rub out the skid marks in private." He told Jeremy Borash to quit knocking on his door. "When I need you, you'll know."

He then turned to LAX at the alternate broadcast area. He told them not to miss another scheduled meeting or it will be the last one. He said next week he'll have at least a half dozen announcements. He said to prove he's serious, someone is getting fired next week. The crowd chanted "Fire Jarrett." Cornette then held up the belt and said Jarrett wants that belt "worse than a sick man wants penicillin."

He said that certain things happened involving Jeff Jarrett and others that make him sick to his stomach and ashamed to be associated with pro wrestling, so therefore Jarrett is not the NWA Champion. He said as of right now, there is no NWA Champion, but by next week, he'll decide who the champion is and make a major announcement about TNA Victory Road on July 16.

He then addressed Jarrett. He said it's personal between them. He said he's known him since he was 14. He said he knows his father and knew his wonderful grandmother. He said she'd be ashamed of him if she weren't already dead. "You wanna powerplay with me, Double Jeff, I've got new for ya', I've been in power-struggles before and come out on top," he said. "We're gonna butt heads, but mine's harder than yours. And next week, I'm going to tell you exactly what your future is. I'll see you in this ring."

-They went to Tenay and Don West at ringside who reacted to Cornette's announcements. Then Jeff Jarrett came out and yelled at Cornette, telling him he should never bring his family into it. He said it's between them. He said if it's the last thing he does, he'll get that belt "because I deserve it."

-Ring introductions took place for A.J. Styles & Christopher Daniels.

[Commercial Break]

1 -- A.J. STYLES & CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. ELIX SKIPPER & DAVID YOUNG (w/Simon Diamond) -- NWA Tag Team Title match

Tenay announced that Cornette just handed him a note that says Samoa Joe will defend the X Title against Senshi and Sonjay Dutt later in the show. Daniels took a brief beating before hot-tagging Styles. Styles signalled for an early Styles Clash on Skipper, but Young interfered. Four-way action broke out with Styles and Daniels getting the advantage. When Daniels set up Angle's Wings on Young, Diamond interfered. The mystery woman, The Neutralizer, entered the ring and bodyslammed Diamond and threw him out of the ring. Daniels then slapped Young and Styles hit the BME followed by a frog splash by Styles for the win.

WINNERS: Styles & Daniels to retain the NWA Tag Titles in 4:00.

STAR RATING: *

-After the match, Gail Kim attacked Miss Neutralizer from behind with a forearm. AMW came out and yanked her away.

-They went backstage with Borash standing outside of Cornette's office with Eric Young, Jay Lethal, and Chris Sabin standing in line to see Cornette. Young was worried he was losing his job. Jarrett barged in front of everyone and said he's not going to wait, then entered unannounced into Cornette's office. It's clear to viewers from the first third of this week's show what was most important and who is most important coming out of Slammiversary. It's not how the King of the Mountain match affected Christian, the incumbent champ, who has barely been mentioned. It's not Kevin Nash and Chris Sabin. They even glossed over the tag title change, addressing it in a matter of fact manner. There is only so much you can focus on, or should focus on, in the first 20 minutes of a show coming out of a PPV, but it's clear that whatever storyline involves Jarrett, or has been created to make him the center of attention, is going to get primary focus. Make no mistake, TNA is still The Jeff Jarrett Show first and foremost.

[Commercial Break]

-They went back to the line outside of Cornette's office. Young argued with Sabin and Lethal outside of Cornette's office. Jarrett walked out of Cornette's office and said Cornette just told him he has to wait seven days to find out about "my title." What do fans in the Impact Zone think about all of this complaining about having to wait seven days think when they see Jarrett find out less than an hour later when the following week's show is taped?

2 -- MONTY BROWN vs. CHASYN RANCE

Tenay said Brown declared on the pre-show at the PPV that he was going to start a new winning streak. Tenay alluded to problems between Team 3D and the James Gang.

WINNER: Brown with The Pounce in 1:00.

STAR RATING: n/a

-After the match, Konnan invited Brown to join LAX. Konnan said he is a superstar with a great physique, great mic skills, and a fly dresser, and they're holding him back. He said despite all of his wins, he's only had one title match. He said it's by design. "Don't be a minority in this company and complain," he said. "They just look for ways to hold you back and make you look stupid." Brown didn't indicate with his facial expression how he felt. Konnan told him if he wants to be like Sonjay Dutt and Ron Killings and learn the hard way, be his guest. Brown walked to the back without accepting.

Then Killings stepped out with a mic and did his "What's Up?" bit. He walked up to LAX. Konnan told Hernandez and Homicide it's okay, Killings is family. He said he's ran the streets with Killings and he has great love and respect for him. He said after four years, "they've think you're nothing." Killings interrupted, "You know what? I'm something to these damn people." Konnan told him to open his eyes. "This company does not look at talent, they look at race!" He again invited Killings to join him in taking what's theirs and stop playing the "white boy games." Konnan hugged Killings, but Killings didn't hug back. Homicide and Hernandez then attacked Killings and tossed him over the railing and back to ringside.

-Borash stood outside Cornette's office. He said Sabin and Lethal were inside. Young complained that he "got zoomed" when they got ahead of him in line. Young got on his knees and begged Borash for advice. Borash asked if he's told the world about his concerns. Young said it was a great idea. Lethal and Sabin walked out of the office. Sabin said they couldn't discuss what was said, but he said "Nash is going to love it." Lethal said next week's company meeting would be great. Young then told Borash not to tell anyone about their "secret plan." Borash said he wouldn't, but clearly thought Young was a goof. They've done a nice job showcasing Young's goofball act. They also have done a good job giving people like Lethal and Sabin, who get little mic time, a chance to be "people" and not just "athletes," even in a subtle way like this. They've also done a good job establishing Cornette as a leader getting things done.

[Commercial Break]

-Back to Borash outside of Cornette's office. Christian was about to walk into the office. Christian said if Cornette is there to do the right thing, he would put the title back around the waist of the true champion.

-They went backstage to an argument between Team 3D and the James Gang, surrounded by security. Slick Johnson declared the contest on. "Your mama is so fat, when I get on top of her, her ears pop," said B.G. James. Brother Ray replied, "Your mama's so far, her shadow weighs 45 pounds." James said, "Your mama so poor, she goes to KFC to lick other people's fingers." Brother Ray said, "Your mama's so far, she wore a Malcolm X t-shirt and a helicopter tried to land on her back." Security members laughs and hooted and hollered in the background. Brother Ray was going to tell a one-liner about James's father, Bob Armstrong, but he stopped and instead just said his dad is an Armstrong, and they'll all losers. James attacked Ray. They brawled into the arena and to the ring. As the James Gang got the best of Team 3D with chairs, Brother Runt ran out and attacked B.G. and Kip. Brother Ray laid down the challenge. He told them to get themselves a partner to face the three of them at Victory Road. "Let's tear this place down one last time," he said.

-Back to Borash again. Christian walked out of the office. He was upset, too, that Cornette was making him wait seven days to find out the fate of the title. Sting walked up to Christian. Christian told Sting he doesn't know about Cornette. Sting said he doesn't have an appointment, but he has something to say to him. Christian told Sting that they're friends, then asked him what he was going to say. Sting said he'd be the first one to know.

[Commercial Break]

3 -- SAMOA JOE vs. SONJAY DUTT vs. SENSHI -- X Division Title match

Only ten minutes left in the show when this began. There was only one mention of the match earlier, and no promos or other build-up. Dutt flipped at Joe, but Joe moved and Dutt landed at Senshi at ringside. Young ran around the ring holding up a sign that said,
"Don't fire Young!" Joe went after Senshi with chops at ringside following by his running boot. Senshi, though, met the charging Joe with a flying clothesline. In the ring, Senshi hit Joe with a series of kicks as they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

As Senshi worked over Joe, Dutt surprised Senshi with a bodyblock following by a couple moonsaults for a two count. Dutt threw some bodyblows at Joe, but Joe caught him mid-air and slammed him to the mat. Senshi came back , but Joe gave him an inverted atomic drop, a big boot, and a senton. Dutt took Joe down with a flying head scissors. Joe chopped Dutt and applied a reverse choke. Senshi dropkicked Joe off the ring apron. Dutt scored a two count on Senshi. Scott Steiner then hit Joe with a chair at ringside. Senshi hit Dutt with a tornado roundhouse kick followed by a double foot stop off the top rope for the win. Tenay pointed out that Joe is still undefeated since he wasn't involved in the pin, but he is no longer X Champ.

WINNER: Senshi at 9:00 to win the X Division Title.

STAR RATING: **1/4 -- Some nice action, but everything felt rushed and there were a few spots where timing wasn't great or contact didn't look strong. Joe's X Division Title loss ideally would have been given more time and been featured more prominently, but that's the downside of the one hour format with so many storylines and wrestlers to feature.
