TNA Impact Wrestling on Thursday, April 12 scored a 0.99 (1.0) rating, down 12 percent from last week's 1.12 rating for the final Lockdown PPV hype. It was tied with the March 1 episode for the lowest rating of the year.
Impact continued see-sawing above and below 1.4 million viewers, averaging 1.39 million viewers Thursday night, down five percent from an average of 1.48 million viewers last week.
At the start of the year, Impact see-sawed above and below 1.6 million viewers on a weekly basis - the show averaged 1.59 million viewers the first eight weeks of the year. Over the past seven weeks, Impact has averaged 1.42 million viewers, a ten percent decline.
On cable TV Thursday night, Impact ranked a distant #40 in overall viewers, #29 among males 18-34, and #17 among males 18-49. Impact's top cable TV competition was "Swamp People" on Discovery with 4.96 million viewers and NBA on TNT, which averaged 3.67 million viewers. The NBA game was on the high-end for Thursday night, but still below what would be viewed as a extraordinary draw in the four-million-viewers range.
Looking at the demographic ratings, Impact was hit hardest in m18-34, declining nearly three-tenths of a ratings point from last week. Impact scored its lowest rating of the year in m18-34, and lowest since the Christmas lead-in at the end of December.
Impact also scored a year-low in m12-34. Relative to the other demos, Impact held steady among adults & males 18-49. The a18-49 rating was even with last week and m18-49 was down slightly.
Caldwell's Analysis: Cue up Reset #105 for TNA's TV product with the show going backwards the past two months after just an okay start to the year coinciding with TNA picking up a new TV contract with Spike TV. The answer is not resetting the product again, but taking a long-term approach to delivering consistent, solid, programming that focuses on the stars of the future. TNA, especially Hogan, continuing to talk about "taking this company to the next level" on their actual TV show - or at all - is doing damage, since it tells viewers that this isn't a major-league product; TNA should be presenting the product like it's the best thing in the entire world within their own universe or ecosystem without having to "evaluate the product within the product."
