Thursday on Impact Wrestling, TNA announced official details on the 12-man "Bound for Glory Series" leading to TNA's annual Bound for Glory PPV in October:

-- The winner of the Series will receive a TNA Title match in the main event at Bound for Glory.

-- Matches in the Series will take place on TV, PPV, and house shows.

-- Matches that will count for the Series can be singles, tag team, or stipulation matches.

-- The point system is as follows: 10 points for a submission win, 7 points for a pinfall win, 5 points for a count-out win, 3 points for a DQ win, 2 points for a Draw, and -10 points for a DQ loss.

-- At the end of the series, the Top Four wrestlers will square off, apparently in semi-final matches to determine who wins the Series to advance to the PPV title match.

On Thursday's Impact episode, Rob Van Dam beat Samoa Joe in the first match of the series to earn seven points.

Next week's Impact will feature Scott Steiner vs. Bully Ray in a Series match.

Caldwell's Analysis: The concept is terrific, but TNA doesn't have a track record of executing these types of concepts (see last year's Top 10 Contenders Rankings) and this could become very convoluted unless TNA really stays on top of things. I'm surprised they're assigning such high point totals to individual matches. Normal points would be 1, 2, or 3, not 10 or 7. TNA could throw out a DQ finish here and there to reduce point totals, but after three months, a wrestler could have a very high point total, which would seem excessive.
