TNA World Hvt. champion Kurt Angle says he's received mixed reactions from co-workers and friends following his arrest on Saturday morning. He also says it hurt him to hear chants of "Jailbreak" during the TNA Hard Justice PPV on Sunday.
"You really find out your true friends. I've had a lot of support from my fans," Angle told Michelle Wright during an interview on ABC Ch. 4 in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. He said he's going to spend time with his family while he waits for his court dates in September and October.
"I'm going to sit and wait for trial. Go see my family and my kids, my daughter. It's just really hard," Angle said. "My ex-wife has been very supportive."
Angle was asked how the arrest and allegations against him have affected him professionally in TNA. Angle said he's "not the stalking kind of person," adding that people around him should know his true character.
"I don't like confrontation, so I kind of back away from it. This is really hard for me. I spent nine hours in jail and it was the lowest point of my life," Angle said as he started to break down crying pleading for his reputation. "I was sitting there in a county jail thinking about why I even started dating this girl (Rhaka Khan). I don't even know when I'm allowed back in my own home. I just hope that the hearing goes okay and I can move back into my home. I just want my life back."
Angle said he spent nine hours in jail on Saturday morning and wasn't given anything to eat, which is a contributing factor to why he looked ill and unhealthy at the PPV on Sunday night.
"I was in there (jail) with people screaming and yelling. I was just trying to post bond. I didn't even know what that was," Angle said, pleading ignorance to the judicial system. "It was my first time in jail. I didn't eat anything."
Prior to his arrest, Angle was served with a PFA at his home. He said that after police forced him out of his home, he contacted his manager, his attorney, and TNA president Dixie Carter to let everyone know his status.
"I left. I didn't want to be in any trouble. I hurried up and called my manager and the owner of my company, TNA. I called my attorney. They said don't go back to my house," Angle said. "Within 14 minutes, a police officer pulled me over and said I violated my PFA. I said there's no way I violated my PFA because I just left my house."
Angle denied he knew Rhaka Khan was at the shopping center where he was arrested for violating the PFA. "I didn't know she was there," Angle said. "They ended up handcuffing me."
According to Angle, TNA knew about the situation in advance yet did not offer a statement at any point on Saturday or Sunday to defend Angle or say they were looking into the charges. They also allowed Angle to wrestle at the PPV on Sunday despite Angle being physically ill.
There is also long-term concern over Angle's health. He claimed in the TV interview that he has a prescription for Human Growth Hormone for therapeutic reasons related to recurring neck injures.
"I'm not supposed to talk specifically, but I've injured my neck six or seven times. I was on growth hormone that was prescribed that was supposed to help with my overall health," Angle said. "It didn't make me bigger. I'm not a very big guy in pro wrestling. I don't use it for that."
Caldwell's Analysis: There is more evidence pointing toward TNA not doing a good job of handling this situation. Their only "statement" has been a No Comment regarding the charges against Angle. Yet, according to Angle, TNA knew about him being kicked out of his home very early on Saturday morning, even before he was arrested. Considering Angle's credibility isn't very strong right now since he contradicted his own statement to the police on whether or not there was an altercation on Friday night, the timeline might be off on exactly when TNA was contacted, but the fact is TNA knew in advance.
TNA not defending Angle or not issuing a statement saying they were looking into the allegations, then allowing Angle to wrestle concluded that TNA dropped the ball by allowing Angle to wrestle and retain the TNA World Title despite being accused of physically harming his ex-girlfriend and stalking her, which were clear personal conduction violations that Dixie Carter identified in testimony to Congress in December 2007. As of right now, those charges still stand against Angle despite his denials, but hindsight is that TNA dropped the ball by allowing Angle to wrestle despite it being very clear he was unfit to compete. TNA did not show support for Angle and his situation nor did they show concern for his health this past weekend.
