TNA News: Kurt Angle appears to contradict previous police statement on his arrest

TNA World Hvt. champion Kurt Angle denied there was an altercation or incident between himself and Rhaka Khan that led to her requesting an emergency restraining order on Saturday morning, August 15. Angle made his comments in a TV interview with the local ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

"No, I wasn't a threat. There was no fight at all. It got to the point in our relationship where we weren't even talking," Angle said. "She was just living in my house. She would never leave. I couldn't physically move her."

Angle's statement appears to contradict what the police officer who arrested Angle on Saturday morning wrote in his police report. Angle reportedly told the police officer there was an altercation on Friday night, August 14 at Angle's home.

The police report from Saturday morning reads: "Angle stated his ex-girlfriend, (name removed for Rhaka Khan), and he had an altercation at his residence in Moon township last evening."

The reported incident would appear to be the fundamental reason why Khan took Angle's car and went to the police station to request an emergency Protection From Abuse. Angle was asked by interviewer Michelle Wright why she would have requested a PFA otherwise.

"Out of spite. I didn't want to marry her," Angle claimed. "There were a lot of red flags in this relationship. I just settled custody with my kids. I basically told her I didn't want to be with her anymore."

Angle also claimed Khan tried to provoke him into starting fights at previous points in their relationship after she moved into his home.

"I knew that she was very clingy and she was always trying to control my life," Angle said. "I told her many times I wanted out of the relationship."

Caldwell's Analysis: I believe this entire issue of whether Khan rightly or wrongly requested a PFA (and was granted a PFA by the emergency court) boils down to whether there was actually an altercation on Friday night that caused her legitimate fear. Otherwise, her requesting a restraining order would fit Angle's claim of extortion.

Some background...Angle's attorney tried to de-characterize the police station where Khan requested the PFA because he claims they granted the restraining order based on limited evidence. We don't know who granted the PFA or how she was able to obtain it, but you would hope the police station would require more than basic evidence to grant a document that could potentially put an offender in jail.

If there actually was an altercation, the question becomes whether Khan's method to protect herself - if she felt threatened, as she stated to police - justified her actions of allegedly setting up Angle to be arrested. Khan claimed to police Angle knew she was at the Starbucks. Angle claims he didn't know she was there, which is his "plea of ignorance" against the PFA. If Angle can prove that Khan followed him to the shopping center and called police to frame him for violating the PFA because she was afraid of Angle and wanted him in jail, then the case comes down to whether she was in the right for taking extreme, yet considerably unethical measures to protect herself.

There is a considerable evidence that we don't know yet and will have to be processed by the judge on October 6 to decide whether Khan was in the right for obtaining the PFA (her case would be thrown out the window if there was no incident) and setting up Angle to be arrested, if indeed she did set him up, as Angle claims.
