TNA News: Homicide says he has more freedom to wrestle on independent shows compared to TNA, describes character differences Jul 2, 2009 - 4:31:46 PM
TNA wrestler Homicide says he has more freedom to perform in the ring when he's on the independent scene. He says he has to tone done his in-ring persona for TNA to appeal to a wider audience.
"I am a TNA wrestler, so when I am there I have to stick with the rules," Homicide told Slam Wrestling. "When I do independents, that word means freedom. The promoter tells me to just go out there and have fun, and that is my secret I like to have fun."
Homicide says the real "Homicide" character is not on TNA TV, but at independent shows where he has time to take the crowd on a roller coaster of being "mad, upset, and happy."
"There is a difference between Notorious 187 the lucha thug and LAX Homicide; they are two different people," he said. "LAX Homicide is more PG 13 style, Notorious 187 is more NC 17."
Homicide says the real character doesn't "give a crap about nothing." He said he's wrestling as the same character, "but I have more fun in independents."
Caldwell's Analysis: Homicide is right on. I've seen Homicide work independent shows where he comes across like a complete badass, even sitting in the stands watching wrestlers work out before a show with no fans around. Yet, in TNA, he blends in with the smaller wrestlers as just another gimmick. Perhaps his upcoming push in the X Division after being off TV for two months will bring a fresher appeal to Homicide's toned-down "PG 13" character.
