Former, well, current TNA wrestler Christopher Daniels says watching "The Wrestler" with his wife created general sadness over his pro wrestling career, as he wonders how it will end up.
"My wife was in tears at the end of it, literally, because she said that she could see parts of my life in that movie, some of the sad parts of it," Daniels told Kevin Eck in the Baltimore Sun. "Just the idea of putting so much into this career and wondering what's going to happen at the end of it."
Daniels, who says the movie could have a positive or negative effect on the wrestling industry, sat next to Diamond Dallas Page at "The Wrestler" premiere in Los Angeles to compare notes on how accurate the movie was, especially some of the more graphic scenes with Necro Butcher.
"There's a scene that they do at CZW with Necro Butcher where there's some pretty hardcore stuff that he does, and I'm thinking to myself, 'I don't know if even Terry Funk would do that at this point.' But maybe I'm wrong," Daniels said. "And I think part of that lends itself to the idea of how much did [Robinson] love this business that he was willing to do this basically on his own accord."
Daniels returned to TNA TV on this week's Impact under the "Suicide" mask with Frankie Kazarian injured after spending the better part of the last year overseas in Japan. The discussion with Kevin Eck leaned heavily on kayfabe as Daniels talked about potential chance meetings between "Fallen Angel" Daniels and "Curry Man."
Whether or not Daniels ends up back on TV "falling down for a living" at this stage of his career, he would still like to contribute to TNA in a behind-the-scenes role.
"If I had my choice, I would like to get into the commentating side of it," Daniels said. "I've done some stuff in the past with TNA and I feel like I could contribute to the product in that way. If I couldn't do something on air, I've talked in the past about doing stuff behind the scenes as far as producing or what not."
