TNA News: Is Kurt Angle ready to follow Brock Lesnar into MMA? WWE broadcaster says whether it's a smart idea Nov 17, 2008 - 5:20:21 PM
Kurt Angle's on-again, off-again relationship with the idea of transitioning into MMA has been the subject of many stories for the past two years. With Brock Lesnar gaining huge success over the weekend with his victory at UFC 91, the inevitable chatter from Angle should pick up over time.
When Angle's TNA DVD is released next Tuesday, we're sure to hear more comments from Angle on the potential MMA transition, as he's stated that he wants to give it a shot before his career is over.
However, WWE broadcaster Jim Ross says not so fast, my friend. Based on Angle's past health issues and history of neck injuries, it might not be a wise decision.
"I assume we can expect the plethora of rumor and speculation that Kurt Angle will someday be going to the UFC," Ross said on jrsbarbq.com. "I don't see it happening myself nor do many others that I know that have infinitely more knowledge of the matter than I."
Ross says that Angle's time was a decade ago prior to the grind of a WWE schedule and re-injuring his neck after wrestling with a broken neck at the 1996 Olympics.
"As I have said before, if Kurt had tried his hand at this ten years ago, I could see it possibly being a successful venture," Ross said. "But with lingering, neck issues and an absence from competitive athletics for so long, it would seem that particular ship has sailed."
FYI: Kurt Angle signed an eight-year contract with WWE in 1998 under Jim Ross's eye as the VP of Talent Relations. Ross was high on Angle for his amateur background and helped sign Angle after he got a poor taste for wrestling two years earlier in ECW.
Well, maybe J.R. is right. Kurt Angle could do this eight years ago, but
now, I don't know. but, I would like to see brock vs.kurt in an mma fight.
It would make an interesting story if it would ever would happen.

I don't think it will happen. The MMA fight between Brock and Kurt can only
end one way, TKO for Brock. I don't think they'll fight because of Angle's
age and the mere fact that Brock could kill him. This is no fake wrestling.
And Dana would be stupid to go after Angle. Brock is getting enough hit for
being a pro-wrestler once.

Angle needs to protect his neck and not even think about going into MMA.
How many times has he hurt his neck in our "fake fighting" fantasy land.
Hell, he shouldn't even be in pro wrestling these days. In MMA, an opponent
would most certainly try to exploit his weakened neck which could lead to a
serious injury.
